The smell disturbs Edmund; slowly he stares, twisting and turning as he struggles awake.

Beside him, sunlight streaming through an uncurtained window, Lucy sits with two mugs and a silver jug. “Good morning,” she cheerfully greets. “Time for presents!”

“What are you doing here?” Edmund blearily asks as he sits up.

“Bringing you a morning drink,” Lucy, simply, replies.

“You know,” Edmund pushes himself onto his pillows, “I don’t drink that.”

“Anymore,” Lucy finishes. She picks up the silver jug and begins to pour. “We think it’s time you began to drink it again.”

“Who’s we?”

“Peter, Susan and me,” she answers quietly. “And Aslan.” She puts the jug down. “You shouldn’t punish yourself for being cold.”

“I betrayed you all,” Edmund says. “For hot chocolate and ... sweeties,” he finishes with a disgusted grimace.

“That’s her word, not yours.” Lucy looks to him. “Mr Tumnus told me.”

Edmund’s face twists and Lucy stays calm, picking up one of the mugs. “I won’t drink it,” he tells her.

“This is for me,” she says before she sips. “Mm. Mrs Beaver’s outdone herself this time. Just right for Christmas morning.”

Edmund watches as she drinks. “What did Aslan say?”

“That, although everyone else has forgiven you, you’ve not forgiven yourself. Honestly, Edmund!” She puts the mug down. “You were cold and she used the warmth you got from the drink to dull your senses. Besides,” she picks up a mug, “you were a greedy pig then.”

His lips twitch at her frank assessment; a ghost of a smile that Lucy sees. “I do miss it,” he begins.

She holds the filled mug in front of him. “I added cinnamon to it,” she confesses. “Mrs Beaver doesn’t know.”

Longing crosses his face before he accepts the mug. Lucy grins before reaching for the half-filled mug beside the jug. “And all,” she whispers, “is right with the world.”
