“Where have you landed us?” Amy asks while stepping away from the snow, watching it carefully for signs of life.

The Doctor licks his left index finger and holds it in the air near the snow. “Somewhere cold.”

Amy tilts her head and eyes him flatly. Rory stands beside her, shaking his head.

“And north.” The Doctor finishes. “Very north.” He grins. “And there’s only one way out.”

Amy stares at him, incredulously. Rory looks from the snow filling the doorway to the Doctor.”

“Oh come on! Where’s your sense of adventure?”

“In here,” Amy replies. “Where there’s no snow!”

“Rory?”

“I agree with Amy.”

“Of course you do,” the Doctor snorts derisively. “Fun’s outside, not in here.”

“Where it’s warm?”

“You’ve got warm coats! Both of you!”

Amy sighs and looks to Rory, who nods slightly. “Fine.” She levels a Look at the Doctor. “If we die freezing in the snow, I will haunt you.”

“Spoken like a true Scot!” He chuckles and studies the snow intently before gently poking it. “You might want to stand back.”

Amy raises an eyebrow; Rory pulls her back.

And back.

And back further still. He stops when they reach the bottom of the stairs leading up to the console. He nods to the Doctor, prepared for ... he leads Amy up the stairs until they’re on the console platform.

The Doctor pulls out his screwdriver, fiddles with its settings briefly and then points it at the snow.

“You’re sonicing snow?”

“Resonating it,” he answers before pressing a button. The screwdriver’s tip glows green.

The snow stays in place. Stubbornly.

“Be that way,” he huffs. Then he pokes the snow. Hard.

Snow tumbled around him, burying him completely.

“Doctor?” Amy (worriedly) and Rory call.

A bump moves in the snow. It rises and becomes the Doctor, completely covered in snow, before he dusts himself off. Amy sighs in relief. Pale sunlight streams in through the door.

“Coming?” The Doctor asks before climbing over and up, vanishing from sight.

Amy laughs, skipping down the stairs and over the snow coated floor. Rory rolls his eyes before following more carefully.

By the time Rory emerges, the Doctor’s studying a reindeer and Amy’s watching.

“Hallo old fellow,” he hears the Doctor saying. “Can you understand me?”

The reindeer minutely inclines its head. Standing beside Amy, Rory stares. “Is he talking to that reindeer?”

“Mmhmm,” Amy nods absently. “Apparently, they’ve a lot in common.”

“It’s a reindeer,” Rory mutters not too softly. Amy nudges him in the ribs, a gesture lost due to the thickness of his coat.

“Shh!” The Doctor half-turns, looking at Rory. “He can hear you!” He looks to the reindeer. “Sorry about that,” he pats the reindeer’s shoulder. “Would you mind awfully fetching the big fellow?” The reindeer shakes its head. “Splendid! We’ll wait here.” The Doctor watches as the reindeer disappears into the nearby trees before he fully turns to look at Rory. “That was rude!”

“It’s a reindeer,” Rory repeats. Movement catches the corner of his eye and, slowly, he looks. Around them are eight reindeer minding their own business.

“They’re friends,” the Doctor explains. “Like you.”

“Are you saying we’re reindeer?”

“Of course not.” The Doctor shakes his head. “They’re more intelligent. Now,” he puts an arm over Amy’s shoulder, “we should clean that snow out of the TARDIS before the big fellow arrives. And not,” he looks directly at Rory, “another word until I say so.”

Rory shakes his head as they approach the TARDIS, this time in search of snow shovels.
