R.I.P. Liam Clancy
I was playing around on Youtube, and found out that Liam Clancy died last week. Wonderful voice, and my first celebrity crush - despite the fact that he was older than my parents. It's strange, how the passing of someone you've never met can make you sad. -
Temporary single parent
I'm back at work, kids go back to school next week, and my husband is off to fight fires in LA. I realize some people do this *all the time* I but I don't see how. And, since I'm stuck in the month where the unemployment has stopped but the paychecks haven't started, we're broke and I can't even take them out to dinner, or buy ready made stuff. Give with one hand, take away with the other.
Aargh. Sometime in May, we were told we were getting a Cost of Living Adjustment, retroactive to Nov. 1. The checks just finally arrived yesterday. A decent amount because, hey, retroactive to November. However, my biweekly raise is only 24.80 - and today, I got another letter, saying that insurance rates are going up - 19.99 per pay check. quick rant about hospital costs
Long story short, since I haven't actually posted about the surgery itself yet...about a week after *finally* getting home from the hospital, my son's heart "paused" (thier term) for 9-10 seconds, and he passed out. This resulted in a 2-3 hour stay in the local hospital, and a 286 mile ambulance ride back to Portland, where he got a pacemaker ( Read more... ) -
good news
Mom and Cousin C.'s surgeries went fine. According to my dad, the operation took only about half the estimated time and the doctors said that Mom's kidney began working in C. before they got him sewed up. She's supposed to be released from the hospital tomorrow afternoon. Seems awfully quick, but they do want her to stay in the area (9 hours from ( Read more... )
