How Interesting/Different (not a bad way either)thirddyfrkMarch 17 2010, 04:51:47 UTC
At first, I was not sure I liked the song. I liked the music itself-very traditional instruments that I wouldn't expect in Hip-Hop. It was the singing or rappin' as you call it that kinda threw me. At first it really threw me because it did not sound like what I was expecting-especially with hip-hop. After listening to it a couple of time and once I threw the concept of hip-hop out of my mind and truly listen to it, I realize that I had heard this style of singing before-Chinese Opera. Since then, it has grown on me and is a bit fun. (Yes I listen to it 5 times now-I such a geek) I am guessing they have a great passion for Chinese Opera and theater. Talk about making hip-hop an art form. Love that the Chinese artist do that. Make it unique and completely theirs

LOL this song is like the perfect example of why I think the Beijing accent is really, really ugly. SOUTHERN ACCENTS 4 LIFE, YO.
你应该了解的 你应该珍惜的 de is a nominalizer here. So the translation should be "what you should understand, what you should treasure". Or "something that you should understand" etc. You get the picture. Nominal phrase. 4 life.

I tagged it as hip-hop mostly because Crazypark is considered hip-hop. They usually have a more mainstream/regular hip-hop sound. They just affected a very Beijing accent/sound for this song since it goes along with the theme of the Beijing hutongs that are gradually disappearing

sounds awesome. you know i'm a sucker for fusion music, especially when as a concept on paper they seem not to go together xD
I find surprising how used to Chinese Opera I am now. I would have detested the high-pitched sounds 3 or 4 years ago, but now I'm used to it. Got any more tracks on Crazypark?
Off topic, have you seen Farewell my Concubine? You really gotta get used to Chinese Opera to fully enjoy the film. xD
I don't have any more Crazypark. The rest of their stuff is more basic hiphop/rap as I recall. I think you can listen to a few more tracks here - http://www.songtaste.com/user/153299/ (I haven't been able to get that page to load for several days now but I'm pretty sure that's where I listened to other tracks.) Also, there's this song - http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/DtyHCq35BFg/ which I know where to get if you like it.
I have seen Farewell My Concubine. It deeply affected me haha... seriously. I have a HUGE Farewell My Concubine movie poster (taller than me) and I posted a mv from it when I 1st started this community - http://community.livejournal.com/more_cmusic/6933.html It really helped pull me into Chinese music.

I saw Farewell my Concubine about 2 or 3 years ago. It was such a great film... I'll steal your poster someday haha.
My first Chinese music song was Jay Chou's Simple Love. LOL
