These Slugs Are Tough!

Well, despite the jagged plastic collars and the free beer, it looks like slugs got the two marigold seedlings in the in ground garden last night, just like they got the lettuce seedlings.   The rain has made it so I am not able to lay down more DE until late this weekend, but I guess I can try eggshells next.  I don't understand it, the collars ( Read more... )

And you'd be even more grossed out by the bloated carcasses in the jar lids full of beer.:D

Are you sure it was slugs? I often get many of my leaves munched on by flea beetle larvae and other such things in my neck of the woods. Read that garlic spray (pressed garlic in water with some mineral oil) is good for this since many cannot stand the stench. *tsk*

Oh.. and salt! (used sparingly when near plants) Or diatomaceous earth for slugs.

It could be something else, but what who knows (well, besides God!). Whatever they are, slugs, other things, they're leaving the kale and garlic alone at least. Probably would be a good idea to go ahead and plant onions and spinach instead of reseeding the lettuce.

Hmmm...could be those bugs that like carrots that I'm forgetting the name of right now. Carrot worms? The dirt is from the drawer I put the carrots in last year.

I'd be surprised if there is a bug or worm that would want to eat garlic! It's to strong.

I noticed a couple of my little planted marigolds had gotten munched too (which is funny too, cause what bug actually likes the nasty tatste of marigold)? Hm... could it be from something that flies?

I guess God is just reminding up we aren't totally in control of our gardens as much as we think we are. Bugs still gotta eat too! ;p
