She hears her name, and then that. She freezes, and when she sees a well-dressed, uniformed nobleman addressing her like that, she stares in honest perplexity. She ducks her head quickly, to avoid any accusation of insolence for looking at him directly.
"I'm sorry, my lord," she apologizes, "But, I think you've mistaken me." She winces internally and settles for hoping he won't decide to be angry she's just told him he's wrong.
But she doesn't know his face. She doesn't look at it, either, keeping her eyes respectfully slightly lowered.
"I'm sorry," she says, and then she's saved by a rare flash of the flattery so necessary at court: "I think I would remember meeting such a fine lord forever," she tells him.
Which is pretty much the polite way to say she definitely hasn't. She's pretty sure of that.
Venus gives the room a curious look. She recognizes the place she's found herself in as the Earth Palace, where as she was on Venus mere moments ago. It's a mind boggling thought until an answer occurs to her... the nexus. Nodding to herself with a small frown, she ventures forward, scanning her surroundings carefully.
Beryl's eyes widen immediately. "Venus-sama!" she addresses the senshi in surprise, bending her knees into something between a bow and a curtsey as she balances the tray.
"Princess-sama's tray is just prepared. I'll bring it immediately," she says, assuming Venus' visit must be to check on it. (Though it seem strange, come to think of it... Why would Venus involve herself in something so small? And it hasn't been that long...)
Her first instinct at the sound of that voice is to tense, shock crossing her face as she seeing the familiar woman kneeling before her. A storm of emotions whirl through Venus, confusion, shock, anger; they already took care of this threat! Concern for her princess, and for the prince even if this woman is in the Earth palace! Thankfully for Beryl though, Venus doesn't immediately attack as part of her wants to, instead one hand reflexively gripping the end of the chain around her waist as she stares.
Thankfully, indeed; this Beryl doesn't have the powers of many of her alternates, either. She watches Venus in some confusion, but stops short of questioning what's made the senshi angry.
"Ah... Venus-sama, did you require me for something?" It's more than a little awkward standing here like this, and she'd prefer orders or a dismissal.
She glances up as the weight of the tray, slight as it is, is taken from her hands. Her first thought is that it's surprising to see Jadeite here, her second to think that he must be covering for the prince and princess having stolen a private moment (a stab of jealousy cuts through her like ice at that thought). She doesn't want to see it. She doesn't want to see it at all.
So she manages a mostly natural smile to Jadeite. "If you wish, Jadeite-sama. Do you mean to carry it up to Endymion-sama?"
A nod. Beryl falls into step with Jadeite, and speaks as they walk down a long hallway and towards a simple staircase used by the household. "Princess-sama is here with her entourage, so..."
Standing in the doorway, with a confused and somewhat awed look on her face, is the princess! Kind of. Usagi's dressed in modern day clothes and she lacks the crescent moon on her forehead at the moment, but it's hard to mistake her for anyone else.
"Princess!" An unexpected sight, here in the kitchens.
She's quite used to the princess incognito, although the modern clothes are rather perplexing. But it is indeed impossible to think this is anyone else, and Beryl sinks into a deep curtsy immediately, holding out the tray of sweets and pastries.
"I was on my way to bring the tray up to you, Princess-sama," she offers.

"I'm very sorry it took so long that you had to come down yourself," she ventures in an attempt to break the awkward silence.
