You know Josef has killed more than once. Wonder how Mick will deal with that? Guess we will find out. This is something new for you and I really like it so far. I usually don't care for stories that take place before the show but this one works for me. Looking forward to reading more.

Glad you are liking the change of pace. I have been known to write more somber stories ("The Sire", "Family Names")--is that what you mean by "something new"? It won't be all in the past either, just a couple chapters. Thanks so much for hanging in there for all my different moods! Chapter 3 will be up sometime today (Fri.).

Another great chapter. I love the moral ambiguity and the fact that Mick's desire for something to alleviate his boredom, give him time away from fighting with Coraline, and take the place of the military service he can't offer in Vietnam puts him in the position of possibly being directly opposed to his BVF Josef, whose own attitudes when it comes to killing humans have always been unapologetically pragmatic and occasionally ruthless.

Just one typo I happened to notice: ...only blood in my sea rations

That's actually "C rations" (even though starting in 1958 the old "C-rations" were replaced with something called an "MCI", US troops continued to call them 'C rations').
