Amazon Recomends

Okay. Look. I appreciate the e-mails that are all like "you may enjoy blahty-blah because you purchased such-and-such". They are often quite helpful. I especially love the ones from Barnes and Noble that let me know that an author I have bought before has a new book coming out. But just because I bought a textbook, that does not mean that I ( Read more... )

Sooo how is Bizenghast? I bought the first one way back when it came out because I was impressed by the promotional artwork. Unfortunately, the story was decent, but not enough to really hold me. I recently bought the "novelization" of the first one or two, and when I went onto Amazon to possibly order more... HOLY SHIT THERE WERE LOTS OF THEM. Last time I looked, there had only been two! I thought about ordering them (I DID really love the art work and fashions on Dinah), but then decided so save my money. Like I said, the story didn't grab me QUITE enough.

Are they worth it? I don't really want to spend $10 a pop for a mediocre manga. Should I just try to find it at the library or is not even worth that much effort?

I think it has a lot of wasted potential. The author skips over a lot, although the early ones are pretty good. It goes all to shit around book five. Honestly? I'd probably wait and try and find it in the library (although I don't think they've picked them up). $10 is too much considering they've been getting shorter and shorter and the stretch between books is longer and longer.

I really think the author isn't it giving it her full attention (she's starting a second project, she sells shit on Etsy, and she cosplays at the major cons) and it's suffering for that. I'm really hoping it picks up, but I think she's dropped some important plot threads and I'm not sure how she'll pick them up again, if she ever will. Even the art kind of suffered in the last one.

If you'd like, I can lend you mine. They're such a quick read.

Yeah I remember how fast the first one was to read. That's kind of the impression I got from it... that it was a decent plot idea that wasn't quite executed with the attention to detail it needed. It felt... hashed together. Things didn't quite add up the way the author seemed to want them to. Like I said, I mainly bought it for the artwork. If the artwork doesn't even make it worth it, then ehhhh. What a shame. It had a lot of potential, but yeah, it sounds like the author doesn't invest the time she should in order to make it a good-quality product. I knew about the costuming (which I think is pretty awesome- I've seen the costumes she makes from Bizenghast and was WAY impressed), but not the etsy shop.

*Teh sad*
