Green Monday: Cycling pt 1, Fitting a Bike

I’ve really been thinking about the idea of getting a bicycle and using it (to start with) for shorter errands and trips. I’ll admit the raising gas prices is one reason, the environmental impact another, but a big reason is also that weighing in now at 157 (a 30 lb loss since Feb) it’s time to step up the fitness part of my day so I can have that ( Read more... )

Tee - I just went to Budget Bikes and picked the one that screamed "grad student" - a vintage 1976 Schwinn with saddle baskets :)

I wish I could, but being so small its hard to find anything that'll fit me and be comfortable. I want saddle baskets on mine too!

That's why I like to bike in heels :) Seriously, though, you aren't supposed to be able to put your foot flat on the ground when you stop (if you are still sitting on your seat). I've master the "curb rest" and the "tippy toe rest."

I am so glad you'll get some use out of the links and info. Yeah, I guess the feet on the ground is bad for your knees, means your seat is too low. Figures.

Ah, cycling is fun! I cycle quite a bit -5 miles a day or so-and I've found the best thing to do when getting a new bike is just to go round the cycle shops and try things out and chat to the guys who work there -especially in the smaller, independent shops, where they're usually all mad about bikes and know everything there is to know about them!
