Seems like a lot of my friends are making them these days -- not sure if because a lot of my peers are turning the "milestone" 30, or all that Mayan end-of-world talk got them thinking about their own mortality. But there it is...
As you can tell from my tone, I'm not much of a bucket list person myself--preferring to live in the present more than anything else (except for the obligatory money-saving for my golden years...)
I won't argue that for some people the list gives them some focused purpose to life. But I personally don't believe in measuring myself against some arbitrary list of lifelong accomplishments or desires (which changes all the time anyways, as do circumstances affect the practicality of achieving them.)
Though I think what I'm truly annoyed at is how some folks constantly keep broadcasting their list and what they've crossed off, or yet to. As if that validates their existence somehow. But I guess I can't control how much they'll continue yapping on about that; what I can control is how I react (a polite smile & nod, even if I'm really tuning out.)
Still, glad to be able to vent about it on LJ...
