the end-of-the-year on writing meme:

Overall Thoughts:
Overall, writing fic this year was a labor of love - more so than in other years. I think it's just because I've been so stressed during certain periods in this year (mostly created by school and my resolve to buckle down and really be studious) and forgot how to write and had to relearn. It's like riding a bike, you never forget but that first try after not writing/riding for a while is always wobbly.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Maybe about the same? There was that mini_nanowrimo stint, but I feel like that was just a whole lot of crap, honestly. And then I had to really scramble and write about four fics in a week to finish schmoop_bingo this last week of December because I really wanted to win this round, damnit and writing a total of five fics really shouldn't have been that hard.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Um. Probably the Ozai/Zuko piece coz...yeah have no idea where that came from. Everything else was pretty much standard.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Um, I think writing John/Rodney always makes me happy so have to say Something Borrowed. I'm pathetically proud of that story for some reason.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I think I took the risk of writing more porn than in previous years. In previous years, I'd just fade to black but now I've been challenging myself to be explicit and I think I've learned to be more poetic or at least I hope I have. Writing sex, there's usually just only one way to go so having it be individual, I guess, and not just what could be copy+paste sex is really challenging.

From my past year of writing, what was...

My best story of this year:
Something Borrowed

My most popular story of this year:
Natural Progression

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
It's a tie between the place you & I meet & Running Blind into the Sun, which were really the first two fics where I tried to be explicit.

Most fun story to write:
In this case for me, fun = the easiest fic to write and that'd have to go to Something Borrowed again. I had a clear idea of what the fic should be about and how to write it from beginning to end and that's what made it the most fun to write - I didn't have to second guess myself, I didn't have to pull out my hair. It was a good fic to write.

Story with the single sexiest moment:
Oh, I have such a hard time defining "sexy". It's really a subjective thing. But I think any of my stuff that's above PG-13 could be defined as having a sexy moment.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
The Ozai/Zuko piece.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
The Ozai/Zuko piece again.

Hardest story to write:
The sga_santa fic. Mostly because I didn't have any inspiration from when I got my recipient to the day of posting. As a result, it went through many beginnings and changed focus from being a h/c fic to one of kidfic. And when I say a kidfic, I don't mean a pregnant-with-child fic but a story about the child's couple. The recipient did comment and thought it was adorable so eh, maybe I didn't fail completely.

Biggest Disappointment:
Again I have to mention the sga_santa fic because it was being so difficult and was making me frustrated. And I don't *hate* the story per se but it's...um, I'd say boring and probably not my best work.

Biggest surprise:
Again, have to go with the Ozai/Zuko fic (Running Blind into the Sun) because it was a big surprise in all the ways.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
I honestly don't know. If hard-pressed to go one way though, I'd have to say the Ozai/Zuko fic takes a look at Zuko's character in a different way and that's unintentionally telling in that I just meant for the fic to be purely a PWP piece.

There's another piece I started about two months ago, a Big Wolf on Campus piece, that I still haven't finished so hope to finish it by midnight tonight but it's not looking that way. It's mostly finished except for this one transitioning scene that I can't get to work right. Meh.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FLIST
