For folks who know kids books...

OK, probably not getting back to Linketies tonight. That last link got me all distracted thinking about reading to kids, and I've spent the last several hours playing on Amazon assembling a wish list of kids books that I want to buy in the next year or so to share with Kidlet. Mom had a really good suggestion; this has been a reminder of how much ( Read more... )

Have you seen The Very Silly Mayor by Tom Tomorrow? I haven't actually read a copy, but I've always got it in the back of my head as something I should get if I find the right person to get it for.

For an older age group ... I had great success reading A Wizard of Earthsea to my son.

Oh, that sounds like fun! I'll look it up!

Earthsea's definitely on the list for when he gets older.

I adore Little Bitty Mousie and we read it daily for about a year for S.'s naps. He loves it. Very cute, beautiful illustrations, and a sweet story (if you like mice). But you will never leave you butter out at night again. :-)

The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear is really cute and fun for kids.

I love all the original Curious George books and little kids love them too for all George's adventures. They are long, however, and sometimes a fifty page book is more than a small child (or the caregiver) has the patience for.

I Like Me is a cute and nice book about loving oneself.

Uncle Bobby's Wedding is a very nice story that casually has same-sex marriage as its backdrop. Love this one.

Not a Stick is a favorite of S.'s. Simple and cute.

Richard Scary books are another favorite of S.'s. He loves all the funny vehicles.

The Amazing Machines collection is great for younger kids. S. had these all memorized at one point. He just LOVED them.

Argh! I still have the only 3 of the Serendipity series that I purchased in elementary school at book fairs, and my 3-yo LOOOOOOVES them. I was so damned sad to find I couldn't grab more for her!
