Not the way I wanted to start today: my work being called "valueless".

Tell me about something of deep value to you that is not obviously valuable.

work, boom de yada, whining

I'm having a hard time answering because I keep thinking I value X and then thinking, but that's obviously valuable! So I can't seem to move beyond my subjective position enough to answer your question. :)

I am angry that someone called your work valueless though.

I value you, but you are obviously valuable.

Cycle commuting. Most people have no clue how happy it makes me.

My first thought is compassion. Though it's not something concrete, it is something which I deeply value.

The ability to read?

Having doctors who treat me like a human being.

Those are all good, but the last one is one of my favorites.

Of great value to me, and not apparent?
That would be a day where I get a lot done, but no one notices me at work.

It means that I'm actually accomplishing my task of keeping IT "just working" in the background.
Yet if no one notices me, why are they paying me? The conundrum of IT continues apace...

That and twist-ties. I save them from every cable I unwrap and reuse them everywhere. Incredibly useful and never noticed.

That's the curse of IT, if you're doing it right, they think you're useless. If you do it halfassed and are constantly saving the the day because of your own imcompetence, somehow you are better. I think you rock :)
