I am applying for jobs. Part of what I do is project management. Should I be PMI certified, or does nobody care?

In other news, the Hahvahd job I was working toward for months and months got to a point where everyone involved was really excited about me and they called to ask for my references one morning and then THAT DAY there was a big layoff ( Read more... )

I'm not sure - it can't hurt. I know someone you're connected to by two degrees with several on your f-list who is going for her PMI right now and recently.

Speaking of jobs, I've written some articles on friends and acquaintances leveraging my network for job hunting along with LinkedIn and had some decent successes in getting a resume placed on the desk of the hiring manager as the one originally submitted sits with HR.

Oh, that's a tough one. On one hand, PMI cert sets you apart. On the other hand, it commands higher-end salary, which these days may be a disadvantage.

I'm talkin' out my elbow, and don't actually have any knowledge to bring to this. If it's not a huge pain, I'd get the cert and advertise it selectively.

this.

I've never thought of just having people not mention the things that put them in the higher income category. I wonder if that is considered unethical? It's certainly something to look into as I know many people who have lost job opportunities for being overqualified.

I totally hate that kind of rejection letter too... it's nearly as bad as when my old bosses seemed to want me to make them feel better for laying me off.

Oh poopy. Mort had a long stretch of that as well. We started yelling "I will trade 5 people who think I'm fabulous but won't hire me for one who thinks I'm an idiot but wants to give me a job!"
