I would argue: study abroad while you have the chance. If it makes you appreciate your home more, all the better.
Don't get to age 34 wishing you'd taken the opportunity to travel back when you had no lifetime responsibilities making claims on your time and your budget ...
Yes, I definitely agree with you. I'm not saying I regret studying abroad at all - do I regret not doing MORE with it, then yes - but not my actual choice TO study abroad nor where.
I guess I'm just in a sour mood 'cause I have to leave Montreal...
Montreal's a great city. But don't sleep on DC, because it can be a great city too, in its own special way. A lot of those things you listed... there's stuff in DC like it. You just have to be able to find and appreciate it. I've grown to appreciate DC a lot more in the recent month and it's surprising how great it can be.
I've been to a couple of games at the Bell Centre. Montreal has a cool atmosphere. Ottawa does too (also worth visiting if you ever get the chance).
And the maritime accent thing. I used to have a net friend from New Brunswick, I'd call her and I'd hate to get off the phone with her because I thought she had the most adorable accent.
Most candy is different in the States. Candy in the States is more sweet (euphemism for "overly packed with sugar") whereas it's more flavorful here. In thr US you barely know what you're eating, just that what you're eating is super sweet.
I remember getting a kick out of seeing Krispy Kreme's hot doughnut sign in French. If only my redneck family in Tennessee could see that...

You're talking about the black guy who's always in front of Multimags, right? I wrote about him for the Link a few years ago. Not an easy interview...

Each time I've been asked I've been flattered and taken it as a compliment!

Now that's just upsetting.
"seeing american companies' slogans and shtuff in french"
heh. 'Le Second Cup'.
"used book shops are mysteriously open, with no customers, at one am on saturdays"
Ever read Foucault's Pendulum? It's cause it's all part of a conspiracy by 700 hundred year old cults to rule the earth.
