Another vegan post!

Can anyone recommend any good vegan bakeries? Or restaurants/cafes where you can order a cake/cupcakes/pie, etc. and bring it home? I looked in the tags and found lists of vegan restaurants but no bakeries specifically. Thanks again!

for Aux Vivres and Crudessence it's best if you order the cake in advance (although you might be able to pick it up the same day at the loft on de Gaspé for Crudessence, i can ask tomorrow if you want).

also, like was mentioned above: Casa del Popolo have vegan desserts, as well as Cagibi and Commensal.

and ps: to all the naysayers, i've been a professional vegan baker for 12 years now, it's possible :P

Thanks for the info! All of this is helpful. Don't worry about asking, knowing that I can order it in advance is fine. :)

vegan baker you say...
Can I solicit you to make a sugar pie? my partner LOVES THEM but I don't have the time (or resources, or know-how) to attempt that one quite yet. I'm still at cookies.

ms dot jennifer dot y33 at gmail, if you're able!

have you tried the one from Crudessence? it's got brazil nuts and maple sirup and a pecan/coconut crust

Cheskie's, the Jewish bakery in Mile End, has a number of vegan options that are totally delicious, but not really cake (pastry-type things).

I went there once and asked about ingredients. The lady behind the counter said that there was either eggs or milk in almost everything. I was kind of surprised by this, as Cheskie's had been recommended to me as a vegan bakery.
...though it's possible the person behind the counter that day just didn't know wtf she was talking about.

Yeah, Cheskie's is not by any means a vegan bakery. Most things do have eggs or milk in them, and you have to specify the ingredients you're asking for since "vegan" isn't their intended market, but the things that don't have eggs/milk are legit pastries, and don't have that disappointing flavor/texture fail that so many vegan baked goods have.

More detailed info from the vegan who introduced me to Cheskie's:

"You can tell them all that anything they say is dairy-free (which is probably almost half of their stuff) *has* to be because it's kosher to go with meat meals. Of those dairy-free goods, some of them happen to not have eggs (namely, the eclairs, the cornets with "whipped cream" or "custard", the unglazed rugalach/croissant-y things, and I think a couple others). I do trust them, they just don't know what "vegan" means so you do have to be specific. They always go to the back and ask if they are unsure."

This lady is local, AMAZING, does both vegan AND gluten free cupcakes which are not only delicious, but are perfectly cake-like in texture, and I think she sometimes delivers.

Mariani (St Henri) usually has a cake or two, and Burritoville (downtown) has plain cookies (and their entire menu is vegan-izable). Frigo Vert (next to Concordia) often has vegan loaves and sommmetimes muffins and cookies.

no problemo. I'm one of the annoying people who constantly keeps asking if there are new vegan restaurants haha. One can hope, right? I just "bake" a lot (bake in quotes since i prefer raw vegan). I'm not majorly into sweets so I don't mind that most of my snacks taste like straw (no, seriously) but surprisingly, even dairy consumers like them!
