Feedback about Nun's Island (commute)?

My husband and I have the opportunity to rent a condo on Nun's Island.  We've been there cycling a few times and though it looked nice enough but are wondering if it's a wise decision, especially with the new Bell campus and the influx of people that must bring.  We're looking for clean/quiet/ boring at this point frankly ( Read more... )

Some of my friends live there so I've experienced the trip quite a few times. I usually take the 168 from either McGill or Square-Victoria but depending on where you live on the Island the 12 from Lasalle is also a good option.

The 168 is kind of tricky. During rush hour it's definitely crowded but there's usually one every 6 minutes. But during the day the bus is way less frequent which can be a pain in the ass if you miss it. And from what I've heard from my friends, it's not rare that a bus or two will just never show up. But that can happen on every bus line. I would say it's usually pretty quick to get there from downtown (say...15 mins?) but I know traffic can be an issue. And construction too.

Generally speaking my experience has been good, but obviously I can't express what it's like on a daily basis.

a co-worker of mine lives out there - not sure exactly where, but she takes the bus (think it's the 168) to work - we work above McGill metro - and I think she said it's usually about 15m or so... She seems quite satisfied with it...

Thank you! That's even better than we thought. Google estimates the commute at 30-40 minutes each way - though that's at rush hour(s).

A half-hour commute sounds about right. Depending on where this is on the island, it will be served by one or both buses. There's a lot of high-rise condo development, particularly at the southern tip, so there will be a lot of young families in the area (and lots of SUVs).

The only real drawback (and this may be less so if you have a car) is that there's no night service to the island. If that's not important to you, then I don't see any reason not to move there.

Thanks for the input! I was expecting a lot of "Why would you possibly want to leave downtown?!" - You've eased my cold feet!
