Meteor Shower tonight! Where to view?

Aug 12, 2010 10:04

Are there any places in Montreal - or easily accessible from Montreal without a car - where it would be easier to see the meteor shower tonight? (I can BMW: Bike, Metro, Walk)

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

getting out of montreal, nature, last minute

Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much air and light pollution to see anything on the island. You have to go at least 1-2 hours away deep in the boonies to be able to hope see anything.

Yeah, I've begun to realize just how bad it is. Bummer. Thanks anyway!

The Planetarium is doing stuff over on the Iles de Boucherville, but I don't know if you can get there in the evening by anything but a car. (In the daytime in summer there are navettes - I've brought a bike over - but they don't run at night.)

The Perseids at Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville: Watch for shooting stars from this famous meteor shower, and peek at the planets through telescopes. Free activity, but SÉPAQ will be charging the regular admission fees to the Park. Please note that pets are not allowed in the Park.
Wednesday and Thursday, August 11 and 12, from 9:00 to 11:30 p.m.

Okay just gonna say, last year I was on a rooftop right downtown and saw over 150 meteors over the span of 4 hours (midnight - 4am). When it's a clear night like tonight, you won't have any issue seeing the meteors no matter where you are, as long as your vision isn't obstructed. We get great views being in the Northern Hemisphere and all, so I wouldn't be too concerned about having to go off island to see them.

The mountain is very dark, very little light pollution in teh right spots, and it's high above the vast majority of light the city emits. This is what I want to try out tonight
