As much as Mary would have liked to be exploring the tropical paradise at the end of the causeway, she instead took the portal back to Virginia to attend another AA meeting. After returning to Fandom, she made a stop at the hotel to check Gunther's progress on those minibar locks, then up to her room to pick up some more clothes

George Michael figured he ought to get it overwith. And he couldn't leave without telling Mary goodbye or to see what she would like to do. So that evening found him knocking on her door.

Mary was surprised to find George Michael at the door, since he usually didn't knock. Still, she was very happy to see him. "Oh, I've missed you so much!" she said, rushing to hug him.

Oh, that surprised him but he hugged her back. Tightly. "How've you been, Mary?"

"I'm good," said Mary. "I'm completely sober and staying that way. I've turned over control of all the room service and minibars to Gunther so I'll never have access to the liquor, and I'm going to AA meetings. I really think I'm going to be okay, as long as I have people watching out for me."
