In other vexations...

Also, someone had posted a handwritten sign on the subway beside an ad for a women's shelter funding campaign (http://www.stopviolence.ca/media_centre.html). It read something like ( Read more... )

sexism, hear me roar, feminism

What a nutjob. Now, there's a place to use crazy as a pejorative.

It's really amusing when insults become "crazy in the bad way" or "sucks in the bad way" because activists start problematizing the use of certain words as pejoratives. I feel like there are no good insults left that aren't offensive to someone - especially when you get into disability politics.

The Femme and I have decided that "Rude-o" is the last good insult left, because those who are "manners challenged" are not a protected group. I suppose there's an argument about cultural differences waiting to be made, but I usually can tell when someone has different cultural expectations and when someone is just being a jerk.

Willow says it on Buffy in one episode. The only folks who I ever hear saying it are me and The Femme.

I do think it's funny. It's just that the longer I looked at it, the more I felt like I wanted to be able to do something, and there was nothing I could do.

And I was reminded of it when I used the "sexism" tag in my last post, so it came out more ranty than anything. I think the bizarre logic starts out as funny and then as I muse on it, it becomes infuriating.

I can't wait until we're ruling the world and can ruin more men with our culture of non-abuse. Oh wait, it oppresses men if they can't hit women. Sorry guys!

i personally believe the world would be a hell of a lot better place to live if women were running it.

I think I'd settle for a bit more division of power. I sure don't think that women are perfect, and I can't say that a matriarchal society would have no problems, but I am so ready for patriarchy to be over.

I wonder what a feminist dictatorship would look like.

Seeing it beside an ad that basically says "Provide women with options because no one should have to live with abuse" just makes me think of how fascist it must feel to not be allowed to beat your wife.

Don't worry about it, just go on out and bastardize some children.
