[first experiment] video/action in New Bark

Jul 03, 2011 12:28

[Unlike most people who have no idea how to work something technological, Sasha's pokegear turns on clear and fluid, showing the glasses-wearing man standing in New Bark Town. In the background, a rather timid Magnemite is floating around, nervous to be in range of the pokegear camera.]

This device is intriguing...modern, yet different than any ( Read more... )

Ah....are you new here? There should be a road leading out of town, and it'll take you to the next town.

[ Because that's probably the simplest question to answer for now. ]

[Simple questions are always a good thing. Sasha just nods, turning around and spotting a small sign near the road. most likely the exit.]

Yes, I'm a newcomer to this world, it seems. And thank you for the advice, as any and all information is greatly appreciated.

I hate to be a burden, but you seem to possess a good deal of knowledge about this place. Is there any other basic facts I should know before heading out of this town?

I don't mind helping out....I was quite lost when I first arrived as well.

Ah....I think there's one thing that's important to know. If you walk in the tall grass, you might run into wild creatures who'll want to fight. In that case, your partner should be able to defend you.

And if they get tired, the Center in the next town can heal them, so don't worry...too much.

It's good to see that veterans of this place are willing to help newcomers out without any hesitation.

So the grass isn't as safe as it looks. I'll be sure that my partner is ready for the challenge ahead before we move onto the next town.

[Sasha seems at ease now, while his Magnemite finally gets a burst of courage and floats in front of the camera, smiling happily at this nice lady. He, or rather it, speaks it's name a few times in a magnetic voice.]

Ah...It seems like my partner wished to thank you for all of your help.

There is no need to apologize. I believe there are very few of us who did not make a similar post when we arrived here.

[The man on screen nods to the camera.] My name is Kazuma Sohma, and I would like to welcome you to Johto. I'm afraid most of us here have no more idea of how to return to our homes than you, though there is one unconfirmed rumor. But I can at least direct you to Route 29 to begin your journey.

Re: [video] monochrome_mind July 3 2011, 22:21:57 UTC
So this is a common occurrence then? I suppose this world is hardly selective on who it brings here...

[Sasha just nods back in response, and Sohma might catch sight of a very sky Magnemite looking at the pokegear curiously.]

A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sohma. I was afraid someone would tell me that home is impossible to reach right now, but I can't sit around and complain about it. That won't change anything...Route 29 is the only grassy road out of here, correct? At least this place it somewhat straightforward.

Very common. It seems new people arrive in groups, about once a week.

[He does notice the Magnemite, as does the little Poliwag peeking in at the corner of his screen. It waves its little tail in a tentative greeting -- almost as shy, but not quite.]

I'm in full agreement with you there, Nein-san. The best way to deal with our situation is to meet it head on and learn as much as we can. [He nods.] That road will take you to the next city, Cherrygrove, after about three days of travel. The travel becomes a bit more complicated after that, but there should be a map function on your Pokégear that will assist.

[Just checking the normal influx of incomers - and here's one that triggers something in the back of his head that he can't quite place, but he's certain he recognises this man, which makes him linger on this particular broadcast. He answers it pretty quickly, with a slight frown - thinking.]

No one knows how to get home, but as for the journey itself, Route 29 should be a good place to start.

[Coop isn't the only one who gets a sense of deja-va when the camera turns on and Sasha finds himself staring at a familiar-looking person. Regardless, he stays calm while talking to the FBI agent.]

It seems like the general population has suggested that route as the optimal place to start. I suppose the only thing I have yet to understand is the actual important of these 'pokemon' and why people enjoy battling with them.

To be fair, it's the only place to start. Unless you'd like to try swimming.

[Coop is mirroring that calm, but is studying Sasha to clear his mind - and not in a very subtle way, either. But he'll answer the indirect questions as he does.]

Your pokémon is to be your partner while you're here. Wild ones might attack you, so it protects you as well as assists you.

As for the battling, you might consider it a sport. These creatures are very ingrained in the culture here - understandably - and battling is only one way it shows.

Alas, I don't think I'd get too far by trying to swim across that body of water. It looks way too deep, after all.

[And Sasha isn't staring anymore, but it's clear by his gaze that this whole encounter feels completely abnormal to him.]

So Magnemite is my intended partner...I scanned him earlier with the Pokedex and it knew quite a bit of data about him. I comprehend the battling concept, but I'm not sure if I can agree with it. Then again...

[He glances over at Magnemite, who's ever so slowly floating towards the poke'gear camera.] Perhaps I can pass my time studying these creatures carefully, whether by battle or through personal interactions with other people. [Or in other words, experiment legally on them in the name of SCIENCE.]

[There are a few things Raz does before making his own posts. Even while he's on a giant dragonfly flying over the sea to get away from Cianwood. Namely, flicking though the network. And, look, it's newbie day! Time so see who's...

Wait.

Back up a tiny bit. And time to open up video - while trying to look mature. Well, as mature as he can while riding a Vibrava across the sea and while having a Dratini wrapped around himself.

Which, I must say, is very mature. Very much so.]
...
[It takes a little while for him to think of something to say, though. Only a little while.]
...I've heard that Route 29 is the best way out of that town - but it's a three-day walk to the next city. Or, at least, that's what I've heard.
[Internally, Raz is wondering why he's the only one of his friends/people from his world who woke up with Team Rocket. FML. He has never been to New Bark Town or Cherrygrove, either.]

[Oh if Sasha only knew what Raz was doing right now, he'd bombard the poor Psychonaut with tons of questions. Instead, he just blinks from behind his glasses, wondering if this really is...]

Razputin?

[Yeah, everything else involving the conversation is completely irrelevant now. He just wants to know if this really is the circus acrobat turned Psychonaut he's known to appreciate.]

[...So, he passed Raz's first test. He remembers him...!! His grin widdens, and he adjusts his goggles a little. Is this a dream?
...Nah, if it was a dream, he wouldn't be flying over the sea right now. At least he's good at hiding his fear of falling and DYING. That, and he has to trust Turble not to drop him. But Turble is a friend. :3]
The very same! It's been months, Agent Nein! I'd give you a warm welcome in-person, but I'm not over that side of Johto right now.

[Good to know he's passed the first test, even though Sasha doesn't even get what's going on. At all. Instead, he gives Razputin the most calm look he can manage.]

It has been a while, Agent Razputin. [And he just shakes his head lightly.] It's no trouble, given the large size of this world. Where are you right now? And please, do tell me what's you've been up to here in this land known as 'Johto'.

I'm going to assume you're trying to be funny with that comment. Either way, it doesn't matter to me. [He's clearly not fazed by the one-sentence reply of a teenager.]

Regardless, I still appreciate the support. [And he says this with a deadpan voice, not intending to be rude.]

[Hiro shrugs. Either rude or just deadpan, either way he doesn't seem to mind.]

Anyway, you said you wanted to get out?

[And this is what happens when two stoic people come together.]

It would be nice, but apparently this place traps people and keeps them here without much to explain it. [He shrugs his shoulders lightly.] Leaving New Bark, however, seems like the first thing I should do. Standing around here will get nothing done, after all.
