THANK YOU, monkie! I watched this ep while on the phone with janissa11 and we were both so . . . disappointed.
I have never rolled my eyes so much at a line from this show as much as I did at Sam saying, "It's Sam." God. Yes. Really, Sam, is now the time? Your brother BEGGED you to give him some time to figure things out and then you snuck out on him. He thought he'd gotten you killed. And with the "you'll have to kill me" joke at the end - HATE.
Dean as a potser. Oh, whatever. Not that it's a surprise at this point, I just sort of ... I can't decide if that's just silly, or what. It's not just silly, it's out of character. Dean being willing to let his guard down long enough to smoke up? Not on your life, not on Sam's life. The only way I can see this happening is if he were so wrecked by Sam going to Stanford, and I just don't read Dean as having that kind of rebellion.
I thought he was direct, and willing to accept responsibility for his actions and Sam's reactions, and. I just liked it. Absolutely. When Sam asked if Dean
( ... )
But I dunno, I actually don't have a problem with Sam in the ep. I just thought the Sam line was ridiculous rather than in poor taste or whatever. And I kind of liked the "you'll have to kill me" joke -- I WANT Sam to have sort of a morbid sense of humor.
My quibbles were much more with the acting and the directing than any of the plot or character arcs, both of which I liked and bought this week.
Haha! I can never really figure out my reactions to SPN very well right after. I usually just pick out the bits I liked for contemplation and fanon fodder and mostly ignore everything else. But if it makes you feel any better, I thought Linda Blair was lamecakes when everyone else thought that was awesome. I think.
Aww. I'm sad that so many folks were meh about this ep. I pretty much loved it. Tho I do think JA was a little off, especially in the Gordon scenes. I also took the Amsterdam thing as a joke, exactly like when Dean told Sam at the end of Nightmare that they needed to go to Vegas. Sam's reaction was proportionate to the Vegas suggestion, and it's all to conceal the serious stuff beneath. Ah, well.
Aww. I haven't seen very much meh about the ep, in general, elsewhere! And honestly, there's a 99% chance that if I weren't so otherwise cranky this week, I would've liked it more (or chosen to focus on the stuff I liked more). I mean, hello! Sam's embarrassed little dance at Ellen asking him what was going on between him and Dean! Classic!
Eeep, what happened to this comment? Anyway, yes. You know I am with you. Even when it's not my favorite episode, I'm still so danged happy it's on! WHEEE!
