See that right there was my whole problem. I dont mind a love interest but not at the expense of Sam. If this is what I have to look forward to with Jo episodes then I'm gonna have to seriously think about skipping them.
Yeah. Grumpy's sort of a good word. I'll have to re-watch it again, of course, because it might have just suffered from my high expectations (again, because I was looking forward to seeing Jo fleshed out). It just wasn't what I thought I'd see, I guess.
yeah, definitely need to rewatch. i'm hoping that on second viewing, i won't be so blah about it. because i do really want to like jo! i'm still very firmly on the fence about her, and i was psyched to see her outside of the roadhouse, out from under ellen's thumb, you know? and there were moments that were really good, but overall, i was underwhelmed.
A lot of other people have mentioned wanting to see how Sam and Dean reacted to her, not just Dean. And ... I get you can't really have a heart-to-heart with three people in the room. But there were ways to balance it, I think, that they just didn't bother with.
HOMG! Dude. Does this mean we're going to get a similarly Jensen-lite ep in the future??? Oh noes!
I really have been spoiled with how much I've liked the other episodes this season! They're trying new things, and one of them was bound to fall flat for me.
The show has spoiled us with awesome epp after awesome epp, and as you say one was bound to fall flat.
But. (There's always one.)
Why did Jo's screentime have to come at the expense of Sam's screentime???? Didn't Kripke listen at all to the other people when they were saying how the show was built on the brothers' dynamic?????
I missed Sam. I missed his emo, his snark. The Sam we saw might as well have been a sidekick. Which is just not on with me.
Exactly! It bummed me out so much. I complain about Sam angsting all over the place, but I don't mean it. I missed Sam tonight. I missed the show that I love, because it totally wasn't there.
Somebody more anal than I should do some kind of comparison of the number of minutes Sam and Dean were on screen together compared to other episodes. I mean, the best part (for me) was the "catfight!" bit. And it kinda went downhill from there.

I kinda was feelin the Jo-like but at the expense of Sam+Dean interaction???
No. A world of NO.
But, as a whole, I liked the eppy.
