http://monkey-meow.livejournal.com/4127.html A/N: this is a fic request by my dongsaeng, loveme_nana. I’m sorry if it’s not meet your expectance. Hope you like it, though.. :)
An orange sky, an almost silent neighborhood if not for a stray dog’s barks which echoed about two blocks from the apartment, and a zombie in front of an apartment door. It was Kyuhyun, who was fumbling with his keys in front of his apartment door, trying to fished the damn things out from his black bag. After a minute or so, he finally entered the dark apartment, kicked off his shoes and fell to the couch, literally. It’s just the first day and yet he already felt extremely tired. Thanks to Yesung, from now on his schedules were full 24/7. He works at Orange Sky as a music teacher in the morning and studying in the university at noon. Although he just started today, he already knew quite a lot of things which happened in the school. The kids were all cute, funny, and naughty at the same time, but he think he could handle it with the help of the people there. Principal Shin and his wife were really nice. So did Ryeowook- shii and also the gorgeous Seo Hyun-shii. He smiled a little at the memory of Seo Hyun-shii’s smile. So sweet, like a melting marshmallow.
As Sungmin-shii, she actually had a nice aura. Really friendly, nice, and all. Kyuhyun’s eyebrows shoot up straightly... and literally, when she mentioned her age, which was actually two years older than him. He couldn’t imagined, that a 25 years old lady could sporting such cute gestures almost all of the time... even without her concern at all. He recalled today’s event when he turned his head from the ever bright smiling Sungmin and Principal Shin who were eating Mrs. Shin’s cookies at the couch to a friendlier view for his eyes. The sight of Ryeowook and Seo Hyun who were sipping their tea together at the other side of the table while talking about the latest fashion item on the magazine. Right. Ladies should act like them. Elegant, polite, and all, Kyuhyun nodded silently.
Not that Sungmin wasn’t polite or what, but if he should described Sungmin in one word, he might said ‘summer’. And Kyuhyun was more like an autumn guy, so logically, he couldn’t stand Sungmin that much. Too bright. Too carefree. Too hot. Made him dizzy. Kyuhyun dislike the heat-struck that he always got in summer time. And he’s afraid he’s gonna get some ‘Sungmin’s-struck’.
Earlier that day, when they were having tea time together, Mrs. Shin announced that the foreign books which Sungmin ordered online had finally arrived. Sungmin jumped from the couch at the words and was sprinting right to the front door. Kyuhyun was surprised, again, when Sungmin got back with a box a lot bigger than herself. When Kyuhyun decided to help her on impulsed and took the box from her, it surprised him more that it was so heavy. And Sungmin was just grinning widely, panting, eyes forming a beautiful crescent of excitement, and cheeks flushed pink while muttering “The kids will be verrrrrry happy.”
Kyuhyun was just hoping that he won’t lost consciousness because of the powerful brightness of a petite ball of energy in front of him.
.....
Sungmin has her own pace. She couldn’t help but made people follow her lead unconsiously. She’s also very independent. Kyuhyun had already lost count of how many times the petite girl suddenly dissapeared to do some heavy tasks which could be done easier by two people or more, such as lifting big boxes full of books or even moving a huge cupboard which was so much bigger than herself, alone. He didn’t understand, why can’t she asked for help, Principal Shin and him were guys and a whole lot stronger than her. They surely would help, if only she asked, but apparently, Sungmin’s a type of girl who didn’t like to bother others.
Ryeowook had asked for his help this noon, to get a jar of brown sugar on the highest rack of the kitchen counter to make a sweet cinnamon cake for the kids. Even his angel, Seo Hyun-shii also asked him indirectly to brought the drawing tools to the class room by whining cutely of how heavy the tools were in front of him, not that he mind though, he always loved to help Seo Hyun. But Kyuhyun couldn’t help but imagined if that was Sungmin in their position, maybe she’ll got a chair to reach the highest stack, and of course, she’ll lift all the tools to the class alone.
Somehow, he felt a little bit uneasy for the fact that Sungmin maybe didn’t trust him enough to help her. Maybe he didn’t pass her conditions to be someone that she can lean on.
It’s only one day, but she has already raisen his curiosity on her. And he didn’t realize, even when he already lying on his comfortable bed, with tummy full of instant ramen cup, he still thought a lot about her, hoping for the night to end quickly so he can met her again and learn more about her.
.....
It’s not that he got a sudden Sungmin’s-struck on the second day, nor he suddenly just fell in love out of the blue with her (because honestly, to have something platonic with her was some kind of impossible, and he had his own perfect candidate for that -cough-Seo hyun-cough), but Sungmin with a pink shirt, white pants and converse, and a pony tail hair style was uber cute! She looked like one of those kindergarteners.
Kyuhyun never had a lolita complex issue before, more over, he’s not a pedo. He’s just fond of cute things, like kids or puppies. That’s why, Kyuhyun couldn’t stop stare at her, eventhough the so called object in his eyes realized what he’s been doing for the past 10 minutes or so.
“What?” she asked when he obviously didn’t stop staring at her. Her eyes were big like a doll and her pink little lips curved into a pretty shaped of a heart.
Kyuhyun blinked and cleared his un-itchy throath, “I.. I need water.” He stood up clumsily and get a bottle of water from the fridge. He shooked his head a couple of times hoping he could escaped from the trance earlier.
Sungmin smiled naively, she didn’t catch any weirdness from Kyuhyun, much to his relief. “So, when will you teach in my class?” She asked while doing something with the colorful papers in her hand. Apparently, she was practicing origami from a book. It’s actually nape time now, so she had time to hang out in the teacher’s lounge. It was just the two of them in the lounge since other teachers were still caught up with their classes at the moment.
“Uh, about that..” Kyuhyun said after gulping down some of the water. “I’m writing a new song right now as a gift for the kids. It’s an easy song. I hope they will like it.”
Sungmin’s eyes grew even bigger and cuter, “Really?”
“Yeah.. Do you want to hear it?” Kyuhyun said while picking up his guitar case from the corner of the room.
“Can I?”
“Of course you can.” Kyuhyun chuckled and began to get into a comfortable position before started to sing.
=‘Little stars.. in the blue sky.
There are so many of you... filling up the dark night sky.
I want to fly and dance.. far away and high to your place.’=
As Kyuhyun ended the song with the last stroke of his guitar string, he saw Sungmin was closing his eyes in silent along the song, “What do you think?” Kyuhyun asked.
She opened her eyes and suddenly started clapping her hands, her face was in awestruck. “Really nice. The kids will love it.”
“I’m glad.” Kyuhyun smiled warmly.
“I hope I can play guitar too.” Sungmin eyed the guitar in Kyuhyun’s hand longingly. “I can play piano, though. I always dream that I can play lots and lots music instrument.”
She smiled softly. Her fingers were tracing the classic guitar lightly.
Kyuhyun watched Sungmin carefully, “Do you...”
Sungmin looked back at him, eyes big and pretty, pink lower lips trapped innocently between her white teeth. “Hm?”
“Do you want me to teach you?” Kyuhyun finally blurted out. There’s a full minute of silent and he almost want to take the offer back when he saw Sungmin’s face suddenly changing from a blank expression to a super excited one.
“Are you sure? Of course I do!!!!” Sungmin exclaimed very cheerfully and then she excused herself to take a look at her children in the class, leaving Kyuhyun alone with his uncertain mind.
He began to questioning his sanity after offering such thing to Sungmin. Was it really a good idea to spent some more time outside the school with her? Didn’t it means he was trapping him self with such an energy ball?
.....
Friendship.. that’s the answer.
He’s offering a friendship to her. He couldn’t and wouldn’t tangled with her in somewhat relationship more than that. She’s just not his type. Moreover, she’s practically Yesung’s fiancee, even though Yesung didn’t want her. Come to think of it, this guitar session would open more opportunity for him to asked her about the engagement indirectly. This’s a win- win solution. Maybe... just maybe, he finally did a good move in his mission. He already decided, he’ll did the final moves based on the facts that he gathered. To be honest, he didn’t know much about Sungmin at the moment and just to call off the engagement before he knew about her conditions would be unfair to her or to both of the sides. If he found that Sungmin was actually a good girl, maybe he can persuade Yesung to change his mind and learn to accept Sungmin, and it would be a happy ending for everyone.
And of course, he won’t felt guilty towards Sungmin.
......
The first session happened about one week later. The sky was still orange coloured, the brown leaves still falling from the trees and trashing the park in a beautiful way, cracking sounds when people stepped on the dry leaves was heard everywhere, and Kyuhyun was sitting on one of the green benches, waiting for a particular someone to show up.
It was not Friday, so it’s not Yesung.
It’s not that she’s late or something, it’s just Kyuhyun who came early.
Sungmin appeared right when the clock stroke 5 times. “Am I late?” She asked between the steamy cups of cofee in her hands. That day, she was wearing a white with pink stripes t-shirt, topped with a huge grey sweater and a light brown jacket. She was wearing a faint blue skinny jeans and her usual white converse. Her hair was rolled up into a cute bun and clipped with a silver hair clip. Some of the strands of her hair fell freely around her pastel pink muffler. She looked so casual yet stunning and managed to be the eye candy of men around, except Kyuhyun of course.
“No!” Kyuhyun answered, too fast.
Sungmin raised one of her pretty eyebrows, “Black coffee?” Sungmin asked while giving him one of the cups. “And I bought some muffins too, but since I don’t know your preferance, I just bought quite everything.” She showed a big box of muffins in a plastic bag.
“Thanks.” Kyuhyun accept gladly while looking around. Apparently, Sungmin’s admirers decided to dismissed themselves as soon as Sungmin settled down beside him. “I see you have a lot of admirers.”
Sungmin glanced at him, a strawbery muffin was on its way towards her mouth caver, “I’m not.” She took good bite of it and Kyuhyun gulped at the sight.
This was funny, really. As much as Kyuhyun assured by himself that Sungmin was not his type and that made it imposibble for him to fall for her, then why he always had this giddy strange feeling everytime he looked at her or watching her every move since the very first day he looked at her? Brushing the weird feeling aside, Kyuhyun giggled and took a chocochips muffin.
Sungmin saw it and mumbled, “Good choice! The owner said that chocochips muffins are the best.”
After a cup of coffee and a couple of muffins later, they finally began the session. Kyuhyun taught Sungmin the first easiest chords. Since Sungmin had play instrument before, she didn’t had any difficulties, much to Kyuhyun’s delight. Soon, he taught her one of the easiest song to play, ‘Romance of Love’.
“So, you picked it over here.. it’s actualy sol and then la...” He instructed her here and there, getting close and close until their shoulders touched each other. Sungmin of course being oblivious like usual, while Kyuhyun felt a weird jolt of electricity running through his shoulder, but he tried to ignore it.
“I see.. sol and then la... and then?” Sungmin turned to her left, gasped a little when she saw Kyuhyun’s pale face right besides her. His brown clear eyes were focus on Sungmin’s fingers, his nose tall and sharp, his cheeks were pale with a tint of pink flush, must be because of the weather, and his thin lips were slighlty parted. “I..” Sungmin paused.
Kyuhyun’s eyes suddenly moves from Sungmin’s fingers to her eyes and he obviously shocked of how closed they were. He jumped back a little while stuttered, “I..I..”
“Kyuhyun-shii, Min unnie?”
Sungmin and Kyuhyun glanced to the new comer and surprised to saw Seo Hyun standing before them with lots of plastic bags. Kyuhyun was standing right away. “Seo Hyun-shii?” He smiled nervously.
“What are you guys doing here?”
Sungmin smiled warmly, “Kyuhyun-shii here was teaching me to play guitar. I see you shopped a lot, Seo Hyunnie.”
“Yes, Mom need ingredients to bake some cookies tomorrow. This’s heavy.” Seo Hyun let out a sighed. She still looked beautiful like usual and Kyuhyun’s heart still beating madly.
“Do.. do you need any help, Seo Hyun-shii?” Kyuhyun blushed.
“But how about the guitar session?” Seo Hyun asked.
“Oh?” Kyuhyun suddenly remembered that he actually still have to finish the session with Sungmin.
Sungmin, the always good observer, immediately understand Kyuhyun’s intention, so she put the guitar back to the case, gave it to a blank Kyuhyun and then took a couple of the plastic bags before shoving it to Kyuhyun’s hands. “It’s done. We’re about to go back home anyway.”
“Are you really don’t mind, Kyuhyun-shii?” Seo Hyun asked shyly.
Sungmin laughed, “He’s not. Trust me!”she winked. “See you guys tomorrow at school.” Sungmin walked away while waving happily.
“I’m sorry, unnie.” Seo Hyun screamed.
“Don’t worry.” Sungmin yelled back with a huge grin on her face.
Seo Hyun smiled to the back of her unnie. “Then, let’s go, Kyuhyun-shii.”
Sungmin looked back to the still shy love birds and smile. “They’ll made a cute couple.” She mumbled while resuming her walk to home.
Little did she know, just when she turned around, it’s Kyuhyun’s turn to looked back and saw her walking away from him.
