I have never been so scared..

The scariest thing happened while I was writing my last entry. I didn't even finish my entry. Anyhow. Obi and Aurra had been wrestling behind me just playing around. Then Obi went into the other room and Aurra laid down by the door looking out the screen. Obi walked back into the room and suddenly fell over. He was completely stiff but shaking. One of my cats was epileptic. It was scary at first, but the medication worked well. She became slightly mellowed, but was still a happy cat.

My dog had her first seizure earlier this year and has had two since. It's SO scary. She seemed to know I was there comforting her, and the rest of the day followed me around (wobbly at first!) like my little shadow... making her owner, my boyfriend, a bit jealous! Anyway.... unfortunately for us, they told us it's either something that will end up being un-fixable, or too costly...nothing showed up in the few tests they did, and we couldn't spend the $1000 to find out more. Anyway...... I sympathize!

and she foams and pees... it's gross but...... you do what you have to I guess.

(By the way, I came to your site through Draysha's... I love your purpleness!)

Poor Obi,
I'm sorry you have to go through this too. If this is the only one you've seen, perhaps it won't happen again...like the vet said.
I think you're doing the right thing by waiting. Especially if dogs rarely die from it. And now you know what to do if it happens again.

*hugs Obi*

He's okay now. Jumping around, acting like the little weiner he is.

Thank you. I never heard about dogs having seizures before and didn't realized how common it is.

When my dog has seizures, we always know when one's coming, because he's extra clingy the day before and a bit wobbly. He alway has his while he's sleeping. He has to be on meds, but they've actually made him more active since he went on - more like a puppy than a 12-year-old. The vet said his meds should make him very sleepy and sedate most the time, but he's not. He's a too-big Yorkie, so he's around the size of a weiner dog :)

The cutest thing is, since he started having seizures, he's always let us know when my brother is having one. He'll stand at the bottom of the stairs and cry till we follow him up to my brother's room, and when we get there, my brother's always just coming out of a seizure.

I have heard of others dogs doing that when people have seizures and even heart attacks. I have even seen of "helper/worker" dogs that can sense seizures in their owners a few minutes before and "warn" them so they can get to a safe and comfortable place in time. I just didn't realize that dogs/animals had them.
Tahnks for sharing. :)

My dog's never been trained to do it, and he didn't start until after he started getting his own seizures. It's all very cute :)
I hope your pup's alright from now on. :)
