"What’s the point of knocking me down? Everybody knows--I’m already good on the ground."

Things that I'm totally over.
Classes.
Papers (5/8 left).
Finals next week.
Newspaper, media, and individuals who have taken to dehumanizing Cho to cope with the VT massacre.
Dumbing myself down in class.
19 credits in a semester.
Anxiety from being positive I will obliterate my GPA.
Already feeling pressure to compete in national scholarships for senior ( Read more... )

Haha, I almost added that to the list, but I didn't want to be presumptuous. P.S. So I'm not leaving until June 18th, which means I might be able to swing by VA before I go! No promises though... ;)

That is an amazing list.... I feel so...sheltered.

BTW, I know this is off topic, but I've noticed in your past couple posts that you've been listening to stuff by MIA. Who are they, what type of stuff do they play? You don't have to respond right away, I know you've got a full plate.

Actually, I have a little comment on your comment on the VT shootings... For whatever reason, this incident has hit me hard. The day after it happened, I was in Bible Study, and I asked for a prayer for all those affected. The pastor asked me to lead the prayer, and I more or less had a breakdown. I was sobbing by the time I was done. I haven't been able to listen to the news or read the newspaper since. The really odd thing is I don't have a direct personal connection to any aspect of the VT shootings. I don't know anybody affected, and I've never been there. I don't know, it's just been hard for me to deal with this, too. I agree with you about the dehumanizing of Cho, though. For all the emotion I've been feeling with this, there isn't any hate in me for Cho, and I certainly don't think it's productive in any sense. It won't help anyone heal any faster, and it won't help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Your feelings are akin to mine, but divergent from the news coverage and interviews that continue to isolate Cho as a pathological or even 'evil' anomaly.

And MIA is actually a British musical artist with Sri Lankan birth roots (see icon). Her music hybridizes Puerto Rican reggaeton, Brasilian funk, Tamil rhythms, American hip-hop, and dance drumbeats. I'm writing a paper on her, so I'm slightly obsessed at the moment.

Congrats on the internship! Is that a new MSU department and if so where does it fall? I"m intrigued...Oh and jealous about the Dalai Lama. Rachael told me about how some of her friends are going and how fast the tickets sold out.

It's actually a merging of WID + the Women, Gender & Social Justice program. It's supposed to be a hub that will eventually house research, study abroad programs, and anything else relevant to gender in a global emphasis. It's really exciting news since it means we'll get lots of speakers and support (maybe $$$?) for what we were interested in already!

The Dalai Lama will definitely be fun though, despite the long drive! ;)
