Not With a Bang (Gen, R)

An insanely late fill for the 5x04 commentfic meme. It had an amazing prompt by minviendha I set aside back in April (for a rainy day). Today was that rainy day.

The prompt was:
Sam made Lucifer promise not to hurt Dean before saying yes. So Lucifer doesn’t. Dean is the only one left alive, and he’s not quite human anymore. Just him and Lucifer, and Lucifer ( Read more... )

end!verse, sam, fic, dean, lucifer

Whoa. That was very nice. I can see Sam laying out the contract just like that and Lucifer just negating most of it without breaking it at all.

“Don’t you have anywhere else to be?” Dean asked instead.

“No,” Lucifer answered. He stayed quiet for a while, just looking at the sky.

Of course he doesn't. He didn't really think that whole thing through. Just him and Dean and nothing left to conquer. I don't think he could have given Sam up so easily given how he'd managed not to fulfill most of the rest of the contract if he hadn't been ready to go anyway.

Awesome.

Thanks so much!
I've found myself really drawn to the End!verse setting lately. It's so bleak, but it just has so much potential, and then I found this prompt again and it just demanded to be filled.

Exactly right. What's the Devil going to do when there's nothing left to conquer? I always end up feeling bad for Lucifer too (just a little)

What a horrible fate for both of them. I was glad they were relieved from it in the end.

Indeed. The End!verse is such a depressing one, but it is so compelling, too.

I think by the end- all three wanted out.

This was sad and will likely haunt me for a while. The scene where Dean tries to kill himself was especially poignant. I'm a sucker for last men on earth fics, and this is an excellent example of one. Thank you for sharing it!

Thanks so much for your kind words!
I find the End!verse setting perpetually fascinating precisely because it's so bleak. I had this prompt set aside for a while, and when I saw it again yesterday it just took hold and I had to write it in one go. Glad it worked!

So twisty and sad. Superb.

*goes away to ruminate and maybe read it again after...*

I had this prompt tucked away, and then when I found it again yesterday I just had to write it out. I admit it - I'm totally in love with the End!verse setting.

Oh. Oh, boys.

That future was so bleak and cold and *dead*, everything grey, everything muted, everything muffled. Dying by inches in cotton fluff.
Lovely, hurty story, but at least they were together in the actual end, and at least they got to dream.

This is in a nutshell what I love about the End!verse

I think- given this set-up , it had to end like this.
