This is wonderful and breathless and just perfect!!!!
Thank you - two very small words that are now full to bursting. *^_^*
I love how Sam feels them... but ignores, shrugs off, gets distracted.
Sam stood, shaking only slightly and walked over to Bobby. He shrugged his shoulders and felt the weight of heavy, enormous wings shifting. He'd been ignoring them, hoping they'd go away like every other hallucination, but now he understood. They were real, they were real, they were real.
Perfect. I love the rhythm and the timbre of the words and the awakening of Sam to the truth.
This was actually really cool to write. Not something I normally write about, but actually a really cool thing to ponder. I hope you didn't mind that Sam's wings were more light than shadow, it just seemed appropriate, given who his angel is. Plus, Raphael had lightning wings, so I think the archangels would have something different anyway ; )
this is a beautiful story.... I love that Lucifer's wings come with the power to heal. and i guessed wrong about where the title came from, googled, and was amazed!! :)
Hee hee- yeah that poem stuck with me for a long time. It's from my very favorite old Trek episode 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' Gary Mitchell (Kirk's original first officer / best friend who went and became a self-declared god (sound familiar?, lol) recites it after reading the whole ship's library to prove he remembers everything he read.
the stanza goes:
My love has wings slender feathered things with grace in upswept curve and tapered tips.
