It will happen. Sam will kick ass, I'm sure of it...hopefully shirtless. And while I love Timothy Ombudsman on Psych, the first time i saw him he was (and forever will be for me) the evil sheriff of New Bern in Jericho and my god did he rock that role. Hotly. :) So his Cain here was not a huge surprise to me (well, Cain was, but not the fantastic way he played him.)

I loved Dean this episode (big surprise there) but I was so hoping for more from Sam and I'm as disappointed as you that we didn't get it. Can't they both be awesome at the same time? Is that too much to ask? That being said, I think, in my totally unspoiled way, that Sam's going to have a huge role in taking down Gadreel. *please, please, please*

they CAN both be awesome at the same time! We've seen it!
Just not in several seasons....

I really hope you're right about Gadreel. Also that taking him down involves Sam wrestling Gadreel (in the Tahmoh vessel) and then oops shirts fall off!

LOL. I think, just to be totally fair, they should set that scene in a shower room. :)

Well they crash through the wall of the room they're fighting in and then land in a communal shower-room obviously.

and then they turn on the water with all the flailing and then it makes them all slippery so they fall and land on each other and then they get a real good look at each other and also there is some soap and steam and..things

::cough::

I get ya on every complaint you have with Sam's storyline, I do. Especially Castiel magically healing him (even though I think that was just because Sam had "begun to revert" to his damaged state, and hadn't reached the depths of damage he had before.) But this:

I expected to see some real anger from Sam and didn't. He's just resigned and sad and it feels odd. He should be furious, and we haven't gotten to see any of that. Sam is DEPRESSED, bb. He's been that way since the end of S8 and I'm surprised it hasn't crossed his big ole brain yet, but dude's got SO many symptoms. I don't like the way he's acting, either -- and worse, Show may never address it -- but he is depressed. That's why no righteous anger. He doesn't have the energy. *may speak from experience ( ... )

Thank you bb that actually does make me feel a lot better.
You're right I think, because he hasn't actually lashed out in anger when he's gotten screwed over previously either. Never got mad at Cas for breaking his brain. And that's something he should've been pretty pissed about too.
My go to emotion is anger when I'm dicked over and Sam's just been dicked over so much it's...argh!

In 9.13, Sam's gonna get hold of some Prozac, get his serotonin levels back up to normal, strip off his shirt, and BURN THAT MOTHER DOWN. While doing pull-ups.
yes I approve of this!

Sam's just been dicked over so much

That, he has. And it just hurts to see him just sit there and take it, but I'm hoping he'll figure out what's going on soon, so we get the real Sam back.

Yeah, they didn't deal with Dean's drinking either. Guess we shouldn't be surprised about the possibility of depression ...

Oooh, I wonder if Cas is lying because the foreign angel's grace he sucked down is tweaking him, hmmm? If Cas is lying, though, it'll make me cranky again for Sam; no one will clue him in. No one will be honest with him. Jesus, gang, he's not made of spun sugar. Give him a bloody chance.

I hope I like this episode better upon rewatch. I really do.

I dug Cain too. Interesting guy, GREAT BEARD. And bees? I know that's gotta be symbolic somehow.

So Dean gets his mytharc ... which he will invariably not tell Sam about. Because Dean wants to go it alone and atone and do himself in, and I predict he will be foolhardy and reckless and then figure out that the Mark makes him immortal. And then Sam will be all "WTF, DEAN? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" And Dean will be like "Sorry, bro, lied to you again. It's what I do." And Sam will muse on it, consider expressing anger, then sigh and slump wearily against a wall somewhere. Dean will go out and kick some hell knight's asses, Sam will shuffle papers and wind up in the corner, unconscious. I just hope his hair looks nice.

Really grumpy Sam!girl, here.

and hot why was it so hot? My hubby made think beards are hot it's totally his fault.

And bees? I know that's gotta be symbolic somehow.
The only biblical reference to bees I'm aware of is in the story of Samson- which incidentally is also where a jawbone of a donkey is used to kill a whole lot people. Cain did not (that I'm aware of) use a jawbone nor did he have anything to do with bees.

Sam will shuffle papers and wind up in the corner, unconscious. I just hope his hair looks nice.
As hubby said: Sam will trip over a carpet and knock himself out and then Castiel will shrug his shoulders and say Ah well, I can't heal THAT!

come on SAM!!! COME BACK TO US BABY! and go get a new tattoo and let us all watch, k?

Whoa, shit, I just thought of something: what if the writers think we'll forget about the tattoo and then Abaddon gets into Sam ..........

Oh god and she'd deck him out in leather too. And probably a tight shirt

I loved this episode but I've been missing Sam for a long time now - all of Season 8 and most of this season too - I want Sam to be on fire again with all that passion he used to have. As well as see more sit ups and topless shots and forearms. Sad Sam is depressing. So I'm hoping this hunt for Gadreel will bring out some of his old pazzazz. Maybe the end of the season will be one episode with Dean kicking Abaddon's pretty ass with his jawbone of an ass, and the other will be a Gadreel Sam face off cage fight. Half nekkid. Yup.

I did also have the same queries as you about Sam having some Lucifer juice left in him (though I think there was a line about the grace fading as Sam healed so maybe that's their 'out'), and that sudden insta-heal 'hey everything is suddenly healed with one touch where I was having to do it all by increments before'. The latter particularly jarred. Makes you wonder if the writer had something else in there that was cut.

I'm also hoping the hunt for Gadreel reinvigorates Sam. That or possibly he has to save Dean's butt for a change. That's something we haven't seen in years.

Saving Dean's butt would be awesome. Especially if we get to see it.

I too want kickass Sam. Monica, come to my rescue! You promised!

Plus I'm sick of the writers only saying Sam and Cas have screwed up. All three of them have. Sam made his decision to choose good in Cold Oak and was willing to die for it. Then Dean went and put him in an impossible situation with the crossroads deal and ending up in Hell. ANYONE would go nuts thinking of their brother/surrogate-mother&father suffering for eternity in Hell until they became a demon. And that's just for starters.

I love them all, but they have ALL messed up in a major way in addition to being really heroic. Not surprising given the stakes they're playing for.

And what is it with big brothers are always self-sacrificing saints all of a sudden? Even Cain FFS!

Arrrrghgggglle!

OK, so we got one-layer Sam but I think only shirtless Sam doing pull-ups would have appeased me here.

(sorry, rant over)

Working on more time stamps as we speak!
And there's a co-written bigbang coming out soon that you will likely love ; )

It's true, they've all three screwed up but Sam's always been harder on himself than anyone.

Hopefully in 9x13 well get shirtlessness or at least a tank top.

OK, I'll be good and patient and wait quietly for the timestamps & bigbang :)

I suspect the writers feel they are depicting Dean's admission that he screwed up via his foolhardy mission against Abaddon. He has no intention of coming out of this alive, that's pretty clear. (Though I suspect the Mark of Cain will thwart hat death wish!)

One of the things I want more than anything right now is for Dean to admit to Sam's face that he's sorry. I want to hear "I'm sorry, Sam." That's it. And no "but I had to do what I had to do; it just ain't in me" yakkity smack. Dean overstepped his bounds. Period. And though self-sacrifice may assuage his guilt, that's the easy way out. When Sam's ready to look at him again, Dean needs to man up and admit he doesn't let Sam make his own decisions. And for that, he's sorry.

And then Sam can go about taking his shirt off…
