NPR has a lovely piece on the 50th anniversary of A Wrinkle in Time. I recommend listening to it rather than just reading the article, as the radio version is longer and includes some excerpts from the book.

For the Hunger Games wedding, I keep thinking things like oh, maybe the bridal bouquet could be made up of wildflowers, like the flowers one character places on the body of a murdered 12 year old! How romantic!

Hee, I actually like the main pairing in THG a lot! But the romance is a subplot to the violent and disturbing main plot!

Thanks for the recs! Least Helpful Reviews is an excellent addition to my reader. The bleak book sounds traumatic, mythically traumatic like that dude that was cursed to see the date of his own demise, but I remember There's a Monster at the End of This Book. :)

The sad thing is, I've actually read the Gerald and Piggie book, but am too shallow to realize just how disturbing it is! Heh. I just thought the elephant and the pig were charming, and I love Mo Willems's illustrations and sense of humor. Show what I know!
