Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner

Hey UK people

I know you are probably getting this from all sides, but here we go again:

Go Vote!!

If you don't vote, you don't get to complain tomorow, and we all know how much you are looking forward to complaining tomorow.

So, yeah.

lol, I totally don't believe in the "if you don't vote you don't get to complain" theory... I didn't vote on whether or not we should go to war in Iraq. Nor did I vote on whether LJ should get rid of basic accounts. I complained about both those things.

I'm not voting because I don't like Ken OR Boris, and I know virtually nothing about the others. I could go along and deface my ballet paper and make a statement... but that's not voting, either, and it's cold outside. :P *pokes*

I have a lot of sympathy in your belief ( ... )

Yes, but you didn't vote on Iraq or LJ changes because you weren't given the choice of voting. If you don't get to voice an opinion on something by voting then you don't lose standing on any position you take on the actions taken. If you are presented with the opportunity to vote and you don't make use of it then you are saying 'I don't care enough about this to have my say', and if you don't care enough to have your say electorally then why should anyone give weight to your complaints when things don't turn out the way you would have wanted?

The fact that if you did the research and then voted for someone with absolutely no chance of winning is irrelevant - you took part, you made the effort and that gives you a 'right' to complain that they didn't listen to you.

"I didn't vote on whether or not we should go to war in Iraq. Nor did I vote on whether LJ should get rid of basic accounts. "

Because you weren't given the *chance* to vote on those. If you're given the chance to vote on a decision and you don't take it, then you have no one to blame *for that* but yourself.

Of course in many cases, when we do get the chance to vote, none of the options being offered comes significantly closer to what you actually want than any of the others anyway. In which case, you *do* get to complain about *that*. =:o} (And I generally do, sometimes at great length...)
