Thoughts on politics ...

Jan 29, 2008 22:39

So, watching the campaign trail the last few days has sparked some questions in my mind. Questions for you, my friends, but also questions for the ether, if you will. First though, I have to say that I'm glad that Giuliani may be out very soon. Frankly ... the man scares me. If you thought Bush spouted 9-11 a lot ... Yeesh.

Anyways. About those questions ... )

Because this won't directly affect me, I can take a more esoterical view on the whole thing... I'm in favour of Clinton/Obama vs. McCain... Can McCain run as his own VP? I don't think I like any of the rest even marginally.

The whole race does seem to me as avoiding the evil of two lessers.

Interesting. And no, McCain can't run as his own VP, although that would be hilarious. XD

Most presidential races these days do seem like that. I think a lot of the candidates of the past decade are so close to the middle or conservative that the lines of parties sort of blur away and become pointless. Although Bush was squarely off to the right. Far right. Nutso right. But still. For most of the candidates, I would agree with you. However, when you have Bush as a 'leader', really at this point, most of them look like a relief. >.

I'm very much in favour of Obama, and most of Europe with me, I believe. Not a fan of Hillary, she's beginning to behave a bit petty for my taste, and my feminist heart is annoyed about her not running under her own name. I'm still not as informed as I'd like, but I think I'd prefer Obama/Edwards. He left the race, but he might still be picked up for VP, right? Poor John, the eternal runner-up, hehe.

The thing that bothers me about these campaigns though, is how much they look like concerts/award shows. Hai there, content, where have you gone?

Hm. Yeah, Hillary has always struck me as the Doberman - she gets her teeth in something and doesn't want to let go until she's got it or she's defeated entirely. And I don't think she'd put up with being VP. It'd be president or nothing for her ( ... )

I want to see a female U.S. president, really, but not when it's Hillary :P. Sad, but true.

I think Obama/Edwards is the best option I can currently think of. There are probably better candidates, that don't stand a chance, but there you go. (And honestly, it can't get worse, can it? ;)

Yeah, I saw some of the debates and commercials, and it's baffling for Europeans, because politics is very, well, dull here. Hehe. I've always been interested in politics, and I'm one of the only people I know who avidly supports the obligatory voting system in Belgium. It's the most democratic way of getting fair results, after all ;).
