They didn't get anything absolutely vital, but the sliding glass door was jimmied open and it won't really lock now. FUCK.

Anybody in Austin have suggestions for places to move? We were meaning to move soon anyway.

Of course not! that would be a good idea and all. Did I mention this happened to us 2 years ago?

And yet we never got around to it. Fuck.

(They didn't take anything utterly vital, and we do have the money to pay 2 leases if necessary, so it should be easy.)

Damn. Sorry to hear that - y'all can crash and/or keep stuff at our place, if need be. Or whatever, just let us know. If i see you tomorrow, maybe we can brainstorm about suggestions for new places to live?

What's the deal with your current place? Is the landlord negligent in taking security precautions, or is it just a comparatively bad neighborhood? Do you know if other people in your complex get burgled frequently, or could it just be a total fluke?

It is a pretty bad neighborhood -- the cop who came out mentioned being there pretty frequently. If we'd been in the habit of using the security bar on the door, this probably wouldn't have happened. The sliding glass door and all the windows are pretty shoddily constructed.

It could definitely have been worse! I have a work friend in a better neighborhood who was broken into a few weeks ago. They even stole his cat food. Literally, the litter box was nearly all that was left.
