Why Beth Ditto Needs to DEVOUR Maja Ivarsson

Oct 27, 2009 13:45

Saturday Flannery and I went to see Shiny Toy Guns and The Sounds at the Warfield... and I hafta say that neither vocalist can sing at all. AT ALL! Not only could she not sing, but front woman Maja Ivarsson of The Sounds was trying a little too hard to be a "rock star." There was something ingenuine about her patter, posing and prancing. So much so ( Read more... )

Wow. I respect opinions and everything but your statements proclaiming Maja Ivarsson "can't sing" and is "trying too hard" are really beyond my grasp. You sound like someone who goes to a show and automatically judges everyone and everything the moment they enter the venue. This is evident by your ignorant judgments. No, Maja Ivarsson does not have the vocal capabilities of Celine Dion but at least she can move around on the stage without busting a seam. I like Beth Ditto and all but, if she didn't carry around all that obesity she would probably be involved in the same types of antics as Maja Ivarsson ( ... )

Well, I'm not going to be defensive here or attempt to debate on opinions. I would like to make myself clear, however ( ... )

I get that you're trying to push the genuineness (or lack thereof) of Maja (with a "j") Ivarsson. I think perhaps it was, like you said, your mood. . .or the crowd. . . or her night. So you made a judgment on her rockstarring capabilities based off of one performance. Fine. I'd do the same if I'd never seen a band live before (and actually, when I first saw them I'd never seen them or heard more than one of their songs but the show was outstanding). You should research a little, though. Maja is by no means "pretending to be a rockstar" or Debby Harry. Everyone has their influences. It's impossible to create something that has not already been done. Although stage persona is separate from real life personality, I would also like to note that Maja is extremely genuine and real in person. She's not a crazy ass who jumps around everywhere. Quite the opposite. I talked to her for about 15 minutes. She is one of very few performers who actually appreciate their fans. Maybe I take more into account than most when it comes to ( ... )

Did you even read this posting? You just spent two paragraphs refuting statements that weren't even made. The point that the author was trying to make (if I'm interpreting this correctly) is that rock star presence has nothing to do with whether you can sing or not...but that, IN THE AUTHOR'S OPINION, Maja Ivarsson has neither singing abilities nor rock star presence.

"Maybe you don't understand what rock music is about"? "This is evident by your ignorant judgments."? Did you actually just make those statements? Rock music is different things to different people. This posting is obviously one person's OPINION of what rock is not, not a definitive essay on the essence of rock and roll. So why the posturing about your view of rock being right when your whole point appears to be that different people view it differently? You just come off sounding like a hypocrite.

Basically, what your comment comes off as is, "I think you're too judgmental...but only because you don't agree with me". You should be so proud.
