Vergil stopped by Devil May Cry. It had been too long since the last time he had any sort of contact with Dante and Eva. He could sense something was wrong. When he got there, his suspicions of them leaving became an agonizing reality, and he was greeted with an eerie silence and emptiness of that truth. He felt angry at first, but Eva had left him ( Read more... )

Laura didn't leave herself time to process the various emotions that she was feeling at the moment. There was only one thing on her mind and she would not rest until she found where Vergil was. She wished that she would have taken the time to get familiar with the city the last time she was here, but she knew that she could find him. She would find him.

For some reason, she felt the urge to check at that place where his brother worked and where his mother stayed. She didn't even bother knocking at the door and walked inside. Taking a quick look around and a deep breath she found her way to where Vergil was. For a moment, it felt like her heart was about to shatter in her chest, but nothing like that ever happened to Laura.

Leaning against a wall close to him, Laura sighed a little. She wasn't sure what to say; he had been standoffish to her and he hadn't been like that for a while. Something was wrong and she wanted to know what it was. "Are you going to talk to me or not? I want to help you, Vergil."

He didn't shift any of his weight, blink or actually look at her, just yet.

"I drove them away." His voice was monotonous.

She pushed herself from the wall and knelt in front of him. He would have to look at her now and she boldly placed her hands on either side of his face and directed his blue to meet with her green. For a fraction of a second one of her thumbs idly began to stroke his cheek but she stopped herself.

"I highly doubt that you drove anyone away," for once her voice sounded like she cared. It no longer had that hard edge to it. "Tell me what happened -- I am here for you and I will not abandon you."

His emotions started to well up again inside, he didn't like it, but he didn't lash out yet. Instead, after looking into her eyes for a short while, he broke the contact by rolling his eyes down. Remaining perfectly still as he began to speak, his tone altered just a tiny bit, sounding a little pained.

"... I failed them. I will always fail them."
