[rl] time will heal the scar

Vergil stopped by Devil May Cry. It had been too long since the last time he had any sort of contact with Dante and Eva. He could sense something was wrong. When he got there, his suspicions of them leaving became an agonizing reality, and he was greeted with an eerie silence and emptiness of that truth. He felt angry at first, but Eva had left him ( Read more... )

Laura didn't leave herself time to process the various emotions that she was feeling at the moment. There was only one thing on her mind and she would not rest until she found where Vergil was. She wished that she would have taken the time to get familiar with the city the last time she was here, but she knew that she could find him. She would find him.

For some reason, she felt the urge to check at that place where his brother worked and where his mother stayed. She didn't even bother knocking at the door and walked inside. Taking a quick look around and a deep breath she found her way to where Vergil was. For a moment, it felt like her heart was about to shatter in her chest, but nothing like that ever happened to Laura.

Leaning against a wall close to him, Laura sighed a little. She wasn't sure what to say; he had been standoffish to her and he hadn't been like that for a while. Something was wrong and she wanted to know what it was. "Are you going to talk to me or not? I want to help you, Vergil."

He didn't shift any of his weight, blink or actually look at her, just yet.

"I drove them away." His voice was monotonous.

She pushed herself from the wall and knelt in front of him. He would have to look at her now and she boldly placed her hands on either side of his face and directed his blue to meet with her green. For a fraction of a second one of her thumbs idly began to stroke his cheek but she stopped herself.

"I highly doubt that you drove anyone away," for once her voice sounded like she cared. It no longer had that hard edge to it. "Tell me what happened -- I am here for you and I will not abandon you."

His emotions started to well up again inside, he didn't like it, but he didn't lash out yet. Instead, after looking into her eyes for a short while, he broke the contact by rolling his eyes down. Remaining perfectly still as he began to speak, his tone altered just a tiny bit, sounding a little pained.

"... I failed them. I will always fail them."

Laura frowned more when he looked away from her and she adjusted her head so she was looking at him once more. The tip of her nose was pressed against his slightly and her eyebrows were furrowed.

"How have you failed them? Because your brother pushed you away and threatened to hurt you if you came anywhere near Eva?"

Her eyes held a sadness they had never had before in her life and it was all because of him. She felt powerless at the moment and she hated feeling vulnerable. Mulling over everything, her thumb brushed against his cheek before she stopped herself from doing it again.

He kept his head there for a few moments. It was quite soothing to have someone. Before, when he'd lost Eva, he was alone and surrounded by violence. However, with things she said and his disgust in himself, it was soon out-weighted by anger and distress.

He eventually broke free, standing from the chair and walked away from her, walking past the things Eva left him, he didn't even realise they were in view. His expression not looking too pleasant. He also maintained a firm grip on Yamato.

"...With reason." The words almost hissed. "I threatened her very existence. I am no better than them. Before, I couldn't prevent it, now, with their nurturing and guidence to attain power to protect, I almost caused her death -- either way I have lived I have achieved nothing."

His expression slips away and turns into one filled with sadness. "Dante leaves with the real woman. I am left with her grave. As a reminder of all that."

Laura was being careful and made sure to read his body language - making a move that would further upset him was out of the question. When he moved away from her, Laura stood up and turned to look at him. Why was it that he could bring out these feelings in her? She had hardened herself since the death of her mother and yet she wasn't able to use that shield the built to protect herself. It could be from Vergil being so much like her ( ... )

Vergil hated being this tolerant of the woman. For one, he didn’t really feel uncomfortable around another person. Most wouldn’t even approach him. A part of him, because of this tolerance, wanted to speak with her ( ... )

A low and almost feral growl came from Laura's chest when Vergil stopped his hand. Here she was actually showing emotions and he was being an ass to her. She wasn't going to have it. There were the possibilities that she would push him away or over the edge but she needed to show that she cared. She needed to get him to open up and stop holding his emotions in.

Jerking her hand out of his, Laura took his face between both her hands and glared at him, "Vergil, stop this. Everyone deserves happiness. You are no different than anyone else." Her expression softened slightly. "Why can't you see this? Your mother tried to show this to you.."

The agitation was even clearer in his face, now, which was being screwed up with scowls and him baring his teeth slightly, fangs could be seen. He felt suffocated by what he was feeling and then at his mother's mention. He just wasn't used to this kind of contact or support.

"N-no..." it was almost a grunt, and he shook his head.

"Now stop this Vergil," Laura was going to press the issue until she was positive that she got through. If she wouldn't do this for herself then she would do it for Eva. She had been kind to Laura even if she didn't know her and that was something that was rare in people.

"Talk to me, Vergil.. You are not alone in this." She rubbed his cheeks with her thumbs before she pulled her hands away.

For a moment, he wanted to stay. However, he'd figured that the problem his family were facing was his existance. Power didn't fix it before, and it definitely wasn't required now.

He stood there, quiet, before these words broke that silence.

"I have to go."

"No you don't."

Laura grabbed onto his arm and pulled him towards her. There was a determined look in her eyes and she kept a firm grip on his wrist.

"There is nothing saying you have to leave. No one is forcing you to leave, Vergil. Just talk to me."

"No, I have to do this." An angry tone in his voice.

Her determination to get him to stay with her was quite overwhelming. he didn't know how to deal with it -- it is something he had never encountered before.

He wanted to get out, and he wanted to stop feeling as if he was drowning in this mealstrom of emotion. Without really thinking, he shoves her back, and slashes with Yamato.

Once he realised what he'd done, a part of him wanted to see if she was alright -- then he remembered her abilities. With a little hesitation, he finally rushed out of the building, slamming the door shut. Before leaving the area, he bolted the door shut with some phantom blades. In a few minutes, they would disappear, or shatter if broken. Either way, it will give him enough time to disappear.
