Greetings, residents of Luceti. I am called Cheyenne, and there is something I wish to ask of you all.

By tomorrow, it will have been a month since my arrival in Luceti. I have, for the most part, remained unseen. I would have continued such a manner of living for the benefit of others here, but circumstances make such a lifestyle impossible for a ( Read more... )

There are... different parts to the soul? Like, if your an animal or person? [Give him a minute... eating souls to him seems, wrong, but you're being so open about it.]

[Strong or not... Vash is pretty lost in this. He will probably daydream about this forever now.] An even stronger illusion? [They can get stronger!?]

Yes. Although, had I created such an illusion, I would have been feeding far more than I would like to do so at this time. When I begin my regular feeding, such illusions are possible.

Furthermore... [She walks over to the water and walks in; since she's part of the illusion and not technically "real" herself, the water seems to react as it should to her; the water splashes up and soaks the bottom hem of her dress.] In order to break out of such a powerful illusion, it requires more than the mere knowledge that what you see is an illusion. One must fight against what they are seeing.

[She looks over at him.] Although I do not wish to give you reason not to trust me, at the same time, I feel it is only fair for you to understand the weakness of my illusions should the need ever arise where you would need to break from one yourself.

[Vash just smiles kindly.] Well, seeing as you're telling me the weakness of your illusions, sounds like more of a reason to trust you to me.

I merely do so in fairness. I would not wish to bring someone into such a state of vulnerability without any means of how to escape.

Furthermore, whereas this illusion is composed of scenes you have never before witnessed, many of my illusions take the form of memories that a creature possesses. One can even relive a moment of their life in the illusions, again, without the knowledge that what they are seeing is only an illusion.

I try to focus such illusions on happier memories, though there are instances where less-than-pleasant scenes may be relived. These are the instances where I should hope you remember how one breaks free from an illusion.

Good advice. [Although being Vash, he may fail at this with the really bad memories.]

So, even if you don't know them, you could recreate people I've met.

In illusions such as those, it is not so much that I am recreating them. Rather, my eyes are reflecting your own memories back to you; sometimes just as you remember them, and sometimes twisted so as to be more cheerful... or, perhaps, more frightening.

As a matter of fact, I cannot see the illusions I create. Just as you are not really talking and walking around, neither am I really doing anything but standing in front of you silently, watching to be sure the illusion is not interrupted by any creatures that might be in the area.

Oh... so... you're like an illusion in my head right now? [This is complicated!]

[Deciding to prove her point, she lifts up her bangs and the shadow over her face is gone... revealing nothing. Her face just seems to end before it gets to her eyes. Not creepy at all, right?] You can tell that I am an illusion, in that I am unable to reproduce the appearance of my eyes in an illusion.

It was only just minutes ago that I heard for the first time what they look like, after all.

[She can't see his reaction, and even if she did, it's not like she'd be offended. She drops her bangs back over her face, but instead of replying, she starts to fade away. In fact, everything is beginning to fade away, including the bright blue ocean...]

[And then, with a bright flash of light, Vash is once more sitting on the fountain in Luceti. In front of him, Cheyenne is tying her blindfold back on.]

My apologies if that ended rather abruptly. Had I continued the illusion any longer, I would have fed far more than I intended, and I did not wish for you to feel any of the side effects at this time.

[Vash lets out a small gasp at the bright light, but catches himself on the fountain. He'll miss that ocean.] Usually I'd feel tired afterwords, right? [Right now he doesn't feel any different. Had she really just been feeding on his soul right then?]

Usually, yes... although you have a rather large amount of power within you. [Looking over at him with a curious frown.] There is a chance you may not feel anything afterwards, unless I were to feed far more than necessary.

[She looks down at him a little more before tilting her head to the side.] ...I beg your pardon if this question is inappropriate, but are you truly a human?

...no, I'm not.

I had suspected as much when I saw what a powerful soul you posses. Not that it is of any difference to me, seeing as I am certainly not a human either.
