Greetings, residents of Luceti. I am called Cheyenne, and there is something I wish to ask of you all.

By tomorrow, it will have been a month since my arrival in Luceti. I have, for the most part, remained unseen. I would have continued such a manner of living for the benefit of others here, but circumstances make such a lifestyle impossible for a ( Read more... )

There are... different parts to the soul? Like, if your an animal or person? [Give him a minute... eating souls to him seems, wrong, but you're being so open about it.]

Sunglasses... [She doesn't quite understand what he means by sunglasses, but she knows what glasses are. And they've never stopped her from creating an illusion before.]

They are not special in any way, are they? From regular glasses? I have never had an illusion fail in such a way before. Not once, in the decades I've been alive. [Another pause and, before he can answer, she adds another, quieter question.] ...does that mean you were able to see what my eyes look like?

They're tinted a yellowish color to make it easier to see in bright sunlight, it takes a bit of the harshness out of the light.

And yes, I could. Would you like to know what they looked like?

Even a tint should not have... [She trails off, turning and facing Vash. She drops her hands down to her sides but her eyes remain shut.]

...what did they look like?

Well, they're unlike any other eyes I've seen before. Instead of having a pupal with color around it, they were a vast shade of calming gery with flecks of white within it, and it took up the entirely of your eyes.

It was very beautiful really. [Disturbing, but if you didn't think about what was suppose to be there it was beautiful.]

Beautiful. [Cheyenne repeats the word to herself, still not used to receiving compliments of any kind. In all likelihood, she may never get used to hearing them. She had always assumed that, save for her powers, the only truly frightful part about her would have been her eyes.]

That makes me... happy. [She says the word slowly, as though she were testing it. It takes another moment before she remembers that "happy" is associated with smiling, and she does so.] Thank you, Vash.

You're welcome, even if it didn't work with the glasses, at least some good came from it - right?

Yes, that is true. Although, if you still would not mind, I would rather like a chance to demonstrate my illusions for real.

Alright, I'll leave the glasses off this time. [Shuts his eyes.] My eyes are shut again.

[There's a few moments of silence as Cheyenne once more focuses on concentrating her powers and creating a new illusion. Eventually, she speaks.] You may open your eyes.

[And when he does, the village is gone. Everything is gone, save for a wide expansion of blue ocean water before him, stretching on for as far as he can see. Beneath his feet is a rocky shoreline, and the gravel even crunches as he walks on it! Over head, the sky is clear and the sun is shining. The sound of birds chirping mingles with the lapping of the waves.]

[Standing beside him is Cheyenne, sans blindfold, but instead of those mysterious silvery eyes, there aren't any eyes to see. It's as though a shadow was covering her face, making it impossible to focus on them.]

[Vash lets off a soft gasp when his eyes set on the ocean, he's never seen one before and has always wanted to.] It's so... big and blue. [He stares wide eyed, trying to take everything in.]

Is it? You know, I have always wondered how illusionists can design such realistic landscapes, despite most of us never having seen them ourselves. Perhaps we are capable of sight, but not able to process the things we see in anything but illusions. [Although right now, Cheyenne wasn't seeing any of this. She could picture it in her mind so clearly and yet, at the same time, had no idea what it looked like. All she saw right now was Vash sitting on that fountain.]

You are free to move around the illusion as you wish, meanwhile, your physical body will neither move nor speak. Although I wouldn't recommend going into the water. This illusion is not a very powerful one, and the water will simply bend around your body... though it should still feel cold, nonetheless.

[Vash takes a tentative step towards the water, but heading your warning and not going into it.] It moves... [Still sounding just like a wonder struck child.] ...and it's loud. I never would have guessed it could be so loud.

[She's understandably confused by his reaction. Although Cheyenne has never technically seen the ocean herself, the planet she's from is mostly composed of ocean water.] Have you never seen the ocean before?

No, never, some of my friends here have told me about them. [He drifts off for a second as he watches a wave crash into the shore, wanting to be sure he'll hear it.] But I never pictured something so... alive.

"Alive" is a rather fitting term. Although the ocean itself does not possess a soul, its never-ending movement makes it far more visible to me than most environments. [A rather serene smile.] Not to mention the life contained within, which is so very abundant.

Had this illusion been stronger, you would not have even been aware that this was an illusion. Instead, I imagine you would experience the sensation of truly seeing a true ocean for the first time in your life. Every sense becomes immersed in the illusion. Sight, scent, sound...
