The Doctor in Whereverland

He sighed softly, and turned the stem of his glass in his fingers, the banana daquiri almost untouched. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, but...

Perhaps not.

The fact of the matter was, he missed Rose. Terribly. And Donna had had a point - the same one made by so many people over the years.

I put down the bottle of vodka for him.

He looks like one who could use it and here, it's cheap enough.

He blinks, and then looks up, and gives a slight smile.

"Thanks, friend, but I don't think it'd do me much good. Wrong... You know. Physiology."

"I wouldn't be surprised you thought so," I observe with a smile before tapping the top.

"You've lost one of your idiots, haven't you?"

She sat not at his table but the next.

Tea. Fruit cup. Data pad, on which she clicked her blood-red nails.

Blink.

The voice was unfamiliar, but the tone, and that feeling in the back of his head...

It was impossible.

He turns his head anyway.

"...Rani?"

"Who did you think I was? Councilwoman Flavia?"

She snorted and shook her head before turning to her work.

Then she looked up.

"Oh don't tell me you thought I was dead. You can't be that stupid."

The look he gives her says that maybe he was.

"I couldn't feel anybody. Including you. What was I supposed to think?"
