He sighed softly, and turned the stem of his glass in his fingers, the banana daquiri almost untouched. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, but...

Perhaps not.

The fact of the matter was, he missed Rose. Terribly. And Donna had had a point - the same one made by so many people over the years.

I put down the bottle of vodka for him.

He looks like one who could use it and here, it's cheap enough.

[mm_azy]

He blinks, and then looks up, and gives a slight smile.

"Thanks, friend, but I don't think it'd do me much good. Wrong... You know. Physiology."

[cynical_light]

"I wouldn't be surprised you thought so," I observe with a smile before tapping the top.

"Drinking that nonsense."

The daiquiri. It's ridiculous. That's not the drink of a man with a broken heart.

[mm_azy]

"But I like bananas," the Doctor protests. "Full of nutrients, and make you feel good."

[cynical_light]

"Good Russian Vodka," I say. "Makes you feel nothing."

Though German beer is almost as good for filling you up.

[mm_azy]

"Mmm. Like I said, wrong physiology." He nods at his drink. "The point here is the banana, not the alcohol."

[cynical_light]

"And what are you, then?"

I'm an Other, but I can still get drunk.

[mm_azy]

"It doesn't matter," he replies, shaking his head. "You probably wouldn't have heard of us, and I'm the only one left, anyway. Not human though," he adds. "That's for sure."

[cynical_light]

"As if I were," I say. I make no secret of what I am here. It's unnecessary.

[mm_azy]

It actually makes him smile.

"Oh, that. You humans are so detail oriented sometimes, it could make a Garullian bureaucrat weep in frustration. The difference between you and other humans? Insignificant. Trivial. When I think of what you could be - what you will be..."

He shakes his head.

[cynical_light]

"I've seen some of it," I say with a wince. "And I know some. I don't like to think about it."

[mm_azy]

"Nah, I'm telling you, it's wonderful!" the Doctor replies, a certain light returning to his eyes.

"You may be from a different universe - don't ask, I can just tell, it's one of those things - but you're still human. And that means amazing! Brilliant! Limitless potential!"

[cynical_light]

...he's not just kidding.

"I know. And it's wonderful. And so different from what is now. It's depressing afterwards, to think of how different. And how much work is to come."

[mm_azy]

"You'll get there, don't worry. There's nothing that can stop you!"

There's little that can cheer the Doctor as much as his favourite species.

[cynical_light]

"Unlike some, I'm going to live through it and more than likely be involved in making it so. I have a lot of work."

[mm_azy]

"Oh yeah?" the Doctor asks, inviting him to elaborate. A gesture also invites him to sit down.
