Sadly, have no time to see PotC2. Will likely not see it until it's out on DVD. Though the upside of that is that I'll see it for free.
Movies recs, this I can do. Another upside of working at Blockbuster. Any particular kind of movies you like? Am particularly good at recs of foreign and independent releases. *toots own horn* :)
Free is good! The effects may be a little bit better on the big screen, but IMO it's not nearly as good as the first, so you're not missing much.
Yay for movie recs, especially from someone who really knows movies! You probably guessed I really like fantasy. *g* I do like foreign and independent movies, especially quirky, dark comedies. I also like classics. To give you an idea, some of my favorite movies of all time are Casablanca, The Princess Bride, The Spanish Prisoner, and a wonderful movie no one has ever seen called Matinee. I'm also a big horror fan, but not of the gory variety of horror - I prefer the weird, supernatural stuff.
For supernatural stuff, try The Dark if you've not seen that yet. I'm with you on the horror thing, prefering weird supernatural to the gory stuff. And yet they seem to make so few that aren't just gore. When did they forget that it's what you don't see that can be most frightening?
Everything is Illuminated with Elijah Wood is one of those good little films that no one knows about. They can't decide what genre to fit it into and imdb.com lists it as adventure/comedy/drama. It has some very funny moments and a touching ending.
Very Bad Things is billed as a thriller/comedy. It's very quirky and my husband and I both love it. If you like that one, also try the newer release The Ice Harvest.
I think the Norrington hotness was a great surprise for the majority of people I have talked with. In fact if they added more of him I wouldn't have minded the slower areas. *grin*
PotC2: I'm sure it will get Oscar nominations for special effects and makeup, but if you mean "best picture," I don't think it will even be in the running. Further thoughts from me here.
Warning: This Comment has Spoilers in it!mlleelizabethJuly 10 2006, 14:17:14 UTC
I'm laughing at myself because that sentence was pretty confusing! The "it" I was referring to was definitely the makeup, not the movie as a whole.
I agree with you completely on the plot holes and eye candy, and on characterization, too. It didn't make much sense at the end, unless we find out something in Part 3 that makes it all make sense, like Jack knows he can get the Pearl back, which I think will probably happen somehow.

Well, they still haven't told us exactly how Jack ended up owing Davy Jones his soul, so maybe there's some kind of rationalization in that story. However, I don't expect it to make REAL sense. I've decided not to worry about it.
