I agree with everything you said, especially about the breakdown about the fans. I only compared it to the Iron Man is terms of Excitement. nothing more. heh.
I loved the movie myself and you hit the nail on the head with the movie being a different universe. YAY!
I also find that fan expectation tends to be the problem with most movies. Fans have a expectation about what the film is going to be and is inevitably let down. Surprise, surprise.
My only expectation was seeing Hugh Jackman in a wife beater. :-) I actually got to see him butt-naked in a few scenes! Hurray me!
I still believe (even if it was a different actor) that the movie intended Weapon XI (and how stupid was THAT?) to be Wade. And I object to how badly they fucked up Wade. I mean, he's Wade. He's naturally fucked up. He doesn't need the extra help.
I don't think it's Wade. Besides, the implants, etc., were such a rush job that they never got the chance to see if he would reject him (ala Sabertooth not receiving the adamantium). The rejection would leave Wade still Wade, but disfigured in a different way.
Actually, with the right write, that could work. Heh.

Otherwise, though, I really enjoyed the movie.
