Declutter

I cleaned out my closet this week. I've done it before, but this one was a lot more drastic.I've never been able to do the whole "toss it if you haven't worn it in six months" thing. It's probably because some of the treasures that I've snagged from my mom that she was never able to throw away. She kept some great stuff from high school, but I ( Read more... )

Good work! I haven't had as hard a time doing this because most of the clothes I've bought for myself have been cheap Target or H&M stuff - or things that OBVIOUSLY no longer fit because I've lost weight. Same thing with thrifted stuff, or things that I brought home from my parents' or grandparents' just to get them out of the house. I basically never get rid of vintage stuff unless I know it's going to a good home - I just sold a few skirts on Etsy, for example, because they were in great condition but I just didn't love them.

Shane has been on me for at least a year to invest in good clothes, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I'm too messy, for one. I also hate clothes shopping because it's so difficult to find things that are flattering AND that I feel that I can justify paying for. Ultimately, though, I suspect my unwillingness to spend $$ on good clothes is related to self-esteem issues. I should just get over that.

I get that. I actually do have some nice things, but I never end up wearing them because I don't want to mess them up or wear them out. But I think Shane is right, you should drop a few bucks on some nicer things.

There are things you can do with the t-shirts that you don't wear but can't part with. You could make pillows out of them, or a quilt or afghan. (I have a pattern for a crochet t-shirt afghan I could send you if you're interested.)

I already have a beautiful t-shirt quilt that my mother-in-law made me, but I would definitely be interested in the crochet pattern.
