Let's say you had a 95 degree Sunday afternoon in August, and you wanted to do something with it.  What would you do with it?
A) Go to the pool?
B) Stay indoors and sleep?
C) Go to the movies?
D) Something else I didn't list...(write-in candidate here)

How many of you thought of "Go buy ice skates in a town 90 miles away."  That's what I chose to do ( Read more... )

It's either that, or a sign from above that I really shouldn't be trying to buy skates.

Did you try Craigs list? I did a search locally and found at least one pair:

figure ice skates, male 11
beautiful canadian skates made w elk leather - rare, hard to find
black leather, canadian, elk
fur lined, w skate guards
used, great shape, including care cream
99$

Er, I don't know about that...I kinda want to try them on. Just like shoes, you want to find a pair that feels right.

Cool recommendation, though. I do see that there's a Champaign/Urbana listing now, which I think is relatively new.

I understand that. I'm not one to buy used shoes but if they are a good deal...

We sold Caitlyn's crib on CL (I think) in March, not sure how long it has been up around here.

I hadn't been on Craig's list in a few years, but I remember being upset that I could only choose "Chicago" as my closest city.

It's come a long way. I bet Craig's list will come in helpful when the day comes that I move.

(Sorry about the double post. I posted without logging in, so it made me anonymous. On my own journal! Hmph!)

In my best Looney Tunes Martian imitation:Where's the Ka-Boom! There's supposed to be an earth-shattering Ka-Boom!

Here I was expecting to hear about you windmilling around on the ice while getting passed by 4-year-olds with those walker-like skating trainers!

I can see how that story would make you not enjoy the thought of skating again. If I were 19, and getting set up, etc. with 14-to-16 year olds, I'd feel really awkward too.
