Alright, well. AU prompt of 'Fandom' defined by the mods at au_bingo as active participants in fandom (not “Harry and Ron discover Harry Potter fanfiction”, but maybe “Harry is a huge BNF in LOTR fandom and goes to cons”). SHEESE. way to make fic-ing difficult mods. You couldn't have given me a different gender or something prompt? *pout* Any-who.

Dropping by Blair Sandburg by Helen W. It's a The Sentinel/Star Trek: TOS crossover... sorta. This was the first fic that I thought of when I sat down to brainstorm about this prompt. I read it the first time *ages* ago and remember thinking how awesome it was that a character was so like me, in that he wrote fanfiction! COOL! On the recent reread it occurred to me how much this is a commentary on fanfiction tropes & history (Star Trek:TOS? And self-insert? Really, Blair?). despite that it's still has a great plot in coping with a fairly tramatic canon event.

Okay, Dropping is fairly silly. Fandom within a fandom. And while you can look at it as a commentary on a fun hobby, it's meta level is fairly low. My next rec is much, much more meta. The Theory of Narrative Causality. It's from the Sherlock BBC Kink Meme. Original prompt was: Sherlock is a well-known fanartist whose online antics always land him on fandom_wank. John's a beloved BNF fanfiction author. They meet at a convention; geeky love ensues. And the fill!author went COMPLETELY and AWESOMELY nuts and made Sherlock and John fans of the ACD canon as well as adaptions. This totally gets lampshaded latter. AND IT IS EPIC.Linked to the original kinkmeme fill. Cause this shit should be read in it's proper format. Keep scrolling.
oh fine. here's the post on for those of you that want to read it all put together and formatted nicely. with author credit and everything. BORING.

Oh and so while google searching for the above meta-tasic fic I stumbled across this Merlin kink meme fill Pairing Pendragon/Merlin Similar in theme and plot to the previous (possibly written first but *pffft*. I like Sherlock much better. Read em both). Merlin characters fan-gasm over Camelot (Starz version. Not the musical). While I've never seen Camelot the meet-the-actors scene is INSANE.
again cleaned up version. Slackers.

And continuing on our meta!kink meme!fill theme, from the Thor Kinkmeme here is The subject line is the title of the fic by lunik_the_bard. Darcy/Loki is not a pairing I understand. That said I SUPPORT THEM IN THIS. Darling snark, great pacing, totally plausible romance. It doesn't get all the way to the pairing, and is more of a friendship fic, but WHAT A RIDE. In this case I don't know if there is a cleaned up version. But read the entire page for some awesome easter eggs, okay?

Vid rec! Which seems like it would be complicated but hey, I love a challange! TV Land by jenndubya. Summaary: Fictional characters can have television obsessions, too. A crack!vid with meta sprinkles. Based around the Power Ranger Dino Thunder episode "Lost & Found in Translation". (uh, everyone knows that Power Rangers is based on a Japanesse show that's been on for 30+ years. Right?) The Rangers watch tv. Lots of tv. Multi-fandom.

More meta. are you sensing a pattern here? (hard not to with this prompt) The Cable & Deadpool Yuletide Special Cause you can't have a review of meta-ish fandom AUs WITHOUT Deadpool. Deadpool is a fan of HIS OWN COMIC BOOK, natch? He's constantly meta-ing his own stories. And in this one he winds up commenting on some rather well know Yuletide stories (Yuletide is it's own fandom at this point, yeah?). Multi-fandom as well. (And I'll wait till you read it. and the source materials. come back when you're done laughing)

"Ook," Said The Librarian by AdaptationDecay Discworld/Thursday Next/16th & 17th Century RPF/yuletide THURSDAY AND THE LIBRARIAN KNOW EACH OTHER. do I need to say more? How's this: FOOTNOTES. READ THEM ALL. there's also debate about Shakespeare's plays. and fandom is canon.

Okay. So who's really responsible for the great LJ STRIKETHROUGH? Here's your answer. What Really Happened 2.0, or How Aziraphale Learned to Stop Worrying and Start Loving the Porn by violet_quill Good Omens This is actually a sequel, but this one has better footnotes.

Here, this one is probably stretching it a bit. It's an AU in which JJ Abrams dumps the pre-production of the next Star Trek on the cast. Everyone proceeds to freak the fuck out. BUT THEY DO AN EXCELLENT JOB OF STAYING TRUE TO THE CANON. that's an overarching theme there. Filmmaking for Assholes by screamlet. big bang fic, so loooong. unfortunately, even at 30,000+ words it STILL feels like it ends abruptly. read anyway.

Does everyone's head hurt from too much meta? mad at me yet? tl;dr? I'll finish with some lighter reading.

going back to Dropping by Blair Sandburg, sometimes the weirdest people write fanfiction. (Also, did you know that there's a 'Characters Writing Fanfic' tag on Ao3?) Re: Re: beta by escritoireazul Glee A-dork-able, fluff.

Fangirl!Frannie by innocentsmith Due South Frannie is SPOT-ON in this one. Love the various POVs. Although the tags make worried where Frannie's kids come from. :P

Here's a couple of awesome charater studies through a look at their favorite fandoms. told in that classic 5 things style :) Five TV Programs That Teal'c Records So He Never Misses an Episode by Paian SG1 and Five Fandoms Gil Grissom Secretly Enjoys by Jedi Buttercup CSI. It's always the quiet ones.

GOOD READING.
