CHAPTER ONE | CHAPTER TWO | CHAPTER THREE

CHAPTER FOUR~BEGINNING OF THE STORM

He ran…

His lungs screamed for air and he couldn’t feel his legs because he was too tired. His ragged breath made his nose and throat hurt. Sweat and tears flooded down his face, uniting with drops of cold rain that were pouring down nonstop. Once in a while lightning flashed, making him squeak.

But he kept running…

Through the dark asphalt with round colorful paving blocks on each side. The big luxurious houses in the area contrasted with his worn shirt. He looked like a lost beggar, whilst the rain just made it worse because he looked so pathetic in the grand harmony.

Worn out shirt, thin fragile body, messy hair, and a face that showed the struggles he had in his short period of life… What else could further worsen this life of his, which was already at its worst?

He finally stopped in front of a luxurious house. The biggest and prettiest house he had ever seen. White marbled wall, with a beautiful park, high walls, crafted fence… It looked like a house out of a fairytale, but with the aura that made his heart sink.

He was standing in front of the fence silently. He was speechless, words hanging at the tip of his tongue without being able to voice his heart out. He was just a seven year old boy…With his hand, which was shaking in hunger and cold, Jin pressed the small red button near the fence. The bell rang cheerfully and softly, contrary to the beat of his raging heart.

He bit his lips when a man came out with a big umbrella, grumbling whilst approaching him at the fence, “Who are you?”

Jin felt so hurt to find the cold mortifying look. His own father was looking at him disdainfully as if he was looking at a cockroach…or something even lower?

“Ano…” Jin gathered his all his courage and lifted up his face, “My name is Akanishi Jin.”

The man’s expression changed. Instead of growing softer to see the son he left when he was still an infant, the man’s face hardened with a bothered look painted clearly on his face. “What do you want?”

Jin felt his heart break and crush into pieces. He bit his pale lips. Deep down, he had always known that his father would never greet him with happiness, or a smile on his face, or hug him softly. He still had that tiny hope though, but it was crushed when he saw the look on his face. But he didn’t have time to be disappointed. There was a reason why he had come to his father so late at night.

“Okaasan…is in the hospital.” Jin stared at the man sadly.

“I don’t care.”

“But…she could die!”

“Why do I care?” The man hissed coldly, “Look boy, never ever think that I’ll care for you even when you are truly my son. You’re just a past that I’ve left behind, along with your mother. Now I have my own live.”

Jin blinked in disbelief. But he tried to throw away the pride he had left. “I just need money. Okasaan needs a surgery.”

Heavy silence fell upon them before the man finally asked, “How much?”

Jin mentioned a number, and the man opened his wallet and took out a small cheque book. He wrote the cheque and threw it right into Jin’s face. “The amount is exactly as you’ve asked. From now on, don’t ever bother me anymore.”

With that, the door was opened. A woman he saw with his father at the park came out, “Anata? Who’s that?”

“Nobody.” His father answered almost immediately, “Just a lost boy.”

NOBODY…

“In this kind of rain? Tell him to come in.”

“No need to. He’s leaving anyway. Besides, he’s just a dirty beggar.”

A LOST BOY…

DIRTY BEGGAR?

“I’m going.” Jin took the cheque and ran away. His tears fell again. His heart hurt, his soul hurt… But at least he got the money for his mother surgery.

With heavy steps, he went inside the hospital, heading straight towards the administration table. Nurse Kyoko came to him at once, “Jin-kun, where have you been?”

“Here.” Jin offered her the wet check, “Money, for okaasan’s surgery.”

The nurse’s face changed a bit, she looked so shocked, “Ne, Jin…gomen.”

Jin was confused when the nurse hugged him and cried, “Nurse Kyoko, nande?”

“You don’t need the money anymore Jin.”

“He? Nande?”

It took Jin a while to get what the nurse was trying to imply. With a shocked, incredulous face he let go and ran into his mother’s room. Instead of seeing his mother sitting by the window and smiling at him, he only found an empty bed. With a vase of white flowers on it.
There’s only one explanation of it : his mother had passed away.

Jin slid down on the floor, “Noooooooooooo!!!”

With tears on his cheeks and a heart filled of hatred he ripped the wet cheque into small shapeless pieces.

“Ne, Jin…promise me one thing.” His mother’s words echoed in his mind. “Be a strong, smart boy. Be superior… Make your father sorry for leaving us.”

“Jin?” Nurse Kyoko who managed to come after him stared at him worriedly. She was surprised to see a hard face, full of hatred, “Jin…”

“I’ll get my revenge.”

***

The rain was falling hard outside. Jin sat by the window, staring at the pouring rain. It was a heavy rain, just like that night. The sky was dark, starless. Just darkness, that colored the sky like a black ink that couldn’t be erased.

“Jin?”

Jin turned around and found Kame nearby. The younger boy was wearing his oversized pajamas with some of the sides hanging down. A fragrance of the soap and sweet scent of shampoo emitted from Kame, who had just finished taking his bath.

“Let’s eat.”

Jin dragged the boy to the living room and placed him on the couch. He went into the kitchen and brought their dinner out. He placed the two plates of pasta down, two bowls of pot-au-feu and two glasses of orange juice. The delicious aroma filled the air, making Kame drool over the food.

“You cooked all these?”

“Of course I did, who else could it be?”

“ Heeee… Oishiiii!!!” Kame squealed in happiness. His mouth was full with the pasta, just like a little child. Jin smiled, the weight in his heart was gone just seeing that happy face. Jin stretched out his hand, “You have something here.”

Jin wiped the corner of Kame’s lips with his finger, making the boy blush. Kame felt a sting of electricity run through his body the moment Jin’s finger made contact with his face. His eyes didn’t leave Jin’s form that licked the pasta cream off his finger.

“I made a lot of these! Eat as much as you like, Kazu-chan.”

Kame just nodded. His heart was filled with a strange sensation he had never felt before. Was it because of his dream earlier? Kame felt his cheeks start to blush again as he remembered the dream.

“ Kazuya…”

Kame gulped as Jin hugged him tightly. Slowly, the older boy touched his lips with his fingers, and at the same time, lifting up his chin softly but with a dominating aura.

Through Jin’s eyeball, Kame saw his own shadow staring back at the form in front of him with hazy eyes and a face that was asking for a further treatment. And Jin lowered down, kissing him softly, like butterflies wings…

“Want some more?” Jin’s voice snapped him from his trance. Kame nodded at once. Happily, Jin filled Kame’s plate, “I’m happy to have someone to eat with me like this… I’ve been eating alone for so long.”

“Heee… nande ?”

“Well, I live by myself.”

“Your parents?”

“I only had a mother. She died when I was seven because of her illness.”

“Gomen…” Kame bit his lips guiltily.

“It’s okay. It’s been so long after all.” Jin patted Kazuya’s gently, “Look at the bright side…I became a good cook.”

Kame smiled to hear that.

“Oishi?” Jin asked.

Kame nodded firmly, “Oishii desu.”

***

After finishing the meal, Jin continued with their lessons. Kame was busy counting numbers with a pouting mouth and burrowed brow.

“Stop that expression.” Jin pushed Kame’s brow, “Don’t be too stressed. It’s only a practice, don’t look like you’re going to die or something.”

“I hate this…” Kame whined in a spoiled tone. Jin hit his head softly “Practice! Don’t use that kind of excuse to stop studying.”

“Hidoi.”

“Speaking of that, are you sure you don’t want to call home?”

“No need for that.” Kame answered without lifting his head from the book, “They wouldn’t care anyway.”

“They?”

“My parents… Dad always in his office or a business trip. Even if he’s at home, he’d look at me like some kind of loser. While Mom devotes her whole life for Dad, and doesn’t care to understand me at all. It’s suck.” Kame poured out his heart, “They forced my future without even asking my opinion at all. I hate them.”

“That’s why you hate to study?”

“Kind of… I’m not interested in medicine.” Kame sighed, “I always want to be an entertainer, but my father scorned at it.”

“Entertainer?”

“I like to act.” Kame replied, feeling relieved that he could say that to someone. “I also like to sing. I like performing in front of others and entertaining them. But my father wouldn’t allow that.”

“ Ne, Kazu-chan…”

“Yes?”

“Sing a song for me.”

Kame smiled gleefully. He wiped his lips slowly before starting to sing.

No matter how much we consider the future,
No one can see the truth.
Something is blocking my blank mind,
It's just a mistake that I've been repeating.

It's okay for my steps to continue, these hands have separated.
Walking away from where you continue to live,
Until I become worn out I keep prolonging it
That time, that place, it will never disappear - this bond.

In time that flows, I try not to lose anything.
Passing by, we collided - true emotion
permeated my heart, into warm desires
The miracle I requested came about by chance.

Even when things couldn't stand still, amidst the pain,
I saw the light, because we were bound together.
It's okay if you lied, and it's okay to cry
That time, that place, it will never disappear - this bond.

It's okay for my steps to continue, these hands have separated.
Walking away from where you continue to live,
Until I become worn out I keep prolonging it
That time, that place, it will never disappear - this bond…

[Kizuna-Kamenashi Kazuya]

“How was it?”

“That was really good, Kazu-chan.” Jin stared at Kame so softly, “You really are talented.”

“Thanks.”

PIP PIP PIP…

Jin looked at the clock that was showing 2 am. “We have to sleep…” Jin rose, “You still have school tomorrow, right?”

Kame nodded.

Jin gets into the room, followed by one hesitating Kame.

“What are you staring at?” Jin pulled his hand, “Just sleep. We will be late if we don’t.”

Jin pulled up his blanket and grabbed his pillow. Then he patted the empty side of his bed. The single bed didnt’t leave much space for both of them, but it was enough for them to squish themselves on.

“Kazu-chan, kocchi.”

Like in trance, Kame nodded and sneaked into the blanket. Outside, the rain was still pouring heavily. Kame’s heart started to beat faster when Jin’s arm reached for him, pulling him close into his warm embrace. Jin’s musky and masculine smell drifted everything away. Kame buried his face to Jin’s chest, closed his eyes and slowly drifted off into dreamland.

Jin smiled to see Kame’s sleeping form in his arms. Slowly, he kissed the boy’s forehead, “Oyasuminasai Kazu-chan… Sleep tight.”

Outside, the rain was still pouring. Lightning was still flashing… But inside his heart, Jin knew that the storm inside him was gradually calming. Replaced by one beautiful rainbow he never thought would ever come…

“…I love you…”
