things make a post

No wonder I’m tired. I’ve walked something on the order of 30 miles in the past four days.

Today I bopped out on my own for a couple of hours and stopped by SubCity, one of the local comic shops. Turns out half one on a Sunday is a great time to go hang out and chat for a while, so I spent a lovely 45 minutes or so talking with Rob, the proprietor ( Read more... )

I've gotten better at it, except the part where apparently I do it backward. @.@

Huh! My hair is getting long enough to French braid again, though I'm not sure my arms are up to it. (It does get harder the longer it gets, so no time like the present, eh?)

My memories of doing it indicate that it's *very hard* to self-braid a streak where you can't see it and arrange the streak on the top, unless you can somehow isolate just streak to one braid, and it's probably not thick enough for that. You might be able to do it yourself with the help of a mirror but that's still a big challenge. Someone else braiding you could probably arrange the streak so it shows through the braid.

You might be able to self-braid it by keeping the streak hair separate from the "bulk" hair for one strand of the braid, pulling in the bulk hair and then laying the streak strand on top of it.

Someone else with more skill and patience with hair might be able to do that, anyway. :) The truth is, it doesn't even fall as brightly and together-ly through a ponytail as one *imagines* it will... :)

I've braided ribbons into my hair and it definitely did not look as I imagined or as fantasy art does! Later tries where I made sure to lay them on top went better, but braids are just fractious.

I suspect to have the streak show really nicely in a braid it would need to be so wide that it wouldn't look like loose, plus needing someone else to do it for you because they can see if it's on top or not. Now I'm wondering if backing the streak with a silver ribbon would constitute cheating. :

Wow your hair has gotten long! I can do a regular braid, but I've had long hair most of my life, and never learned to successfully french braid it. And I have nice silver streaks that show up quite nicely in my hair...not sure it has the same effect as the Rogue streak, though :-)

I have a quite bright silver streak at the top of my head going down over the ears, but yeah, not exactly the same effect. :)

See--always thought that was blonde :-)

(I tell everyone I'm going blonde one hair at a time...)

That's a really interesting braid.
And of course, after you mentioning braiding under rather than over, I had to have a go. It took me 3 tries to make my hands do something different from normal, but it's an interesting effect I'll have to try again. (And it gets easier as I get halfway and can turn my hair upside down and move my hands upwards instead of down.)
Can't French-braid my hair for love nor money though, so I think the Dutch braid is definitely out.
