Ted and I went over to Monkstown this afternoon, after only a year of saying we were going to. miles to Minis Tirith: 1

I count the number of miles I've walked toward a destination, not how many are left. Technically, I suppose it's miles toward Minis Tirith, but I don't like how that sounds.

For some reason, "miles to X" made perfect sense to me, but it has made no sense to anybody else at all.

Miles to X makes perfect sense to me. What confused me was the contrast between "380 miles to Minas Tirith" and "miles to Minas Tirith: 1"...

*laugh* I can see that. I walked 4 miles yesterday, 3 of which completed the journey to Dunharrow and the 4th of which was the first mile on the road to Minas Tirith (leaving, I suppose, only 379, technically). It all makes sense in my head... :)
