Yeah, the whole O Brother soundtrack is amazing. And I don't know the other music you've suggested at all, so I look forward to listening to it! Thank you!

I think Don McLean "American Pie" might fit into this list.

Good list. Recommendations to possibly add to it:

Henry V Soundtrack (Simon Rattle): Non nobis, Domine
Godspell: Prepare Ye (the Way of the Lord)
Lee Ann Womack: I Hope You Dance
Queen: Thank God It's Christmas
Cat Stevens: Morning Has Broken

oooh, the Henry V soundtrack suggestion reminds me that there's at least one song on the Sharpe soundtrack that I think would make the cut! And I've got to get Tommy Sands' Peter's Song on it too.

I know none of your suggestions and look forward to listening to them! Thank you!

How about "Mother, I Climbed" sung by Tracy Grammer, lyrics by Dave Carter? Or their version of "Tanglewood Tree"?

Emmy Lou Harris and Gram Parsons, both singly and together recorded a lot of gospel-type tracks.

I was thinking of Emmylou Harris too. I'd particularly recommend "The Pearl" and "My Baby Needs a Shepherd"

Also, several Kathy Mattea songs. She has a whole gospel-style Christmas album, but I'm fond of some tracks from her Time Passes By album. Try "I Wear Your Love," "Ready for the Storm," and a really nice cover of "From A Distance." Plus one of my all-time favorites, "Asking Us to Dance."

I would recommend Emmy Lou's entire Angel Band, but especially 'Where Could I go But to the Lord' which I often play when I'm feeling wretched.
