I loved that. It was... real. There was no huge angst or confessions of undying love or anything like that. The scene in Harry's office, just at the beginning where Draco's looking at the photo of his daughter, that struck me as particularly true.

This was fantastic stuff. :)

Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it. Yeah, I originally planned this fic to have more of a romantic arc to it, but as I was writing I realised I was forcing the issue and backed off. I'm glad I did.

Argh, I must have gone to bed ten minutes before you posted!

After reading tons of H/D for almost two years, I didn't really think I'd come across a concept I hadn't seen before, but this is it. It feels very real, especially because you just showed us the very beginning of the "new" H/D interaction.

That’s when he decides the best revenge is not thinking about that person at all.

You're portraying a Draco who has been forced to do a lot of growing up in a short time, and to me, this quote illustrates this development perfectly because it's something that Draco would never even have considered during his Hogwarts years.

The tone works perfectly for me - a mixture of resignation, grief, anger, a few moments of a rather dark humour and the tiniest bit of hope.

Thank you so much for writing this for me, dear! ♥ ♥ ♥

commits fandom suicide by inventing an Original Female Character

Uh-oh. This doesn't bode well for the next chapters of your birtdhay fic ;-)

Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it. I was worried that the fic was a too dark. I originally envisioned the fic to be more of a romance, but as I was writing I realized that would be too hard of a sell within the constraints of this fic. Not to say the possibility doesn't exist in the future, which I totally believe it does and I expect in a year from now they'll be quite happy together.

I wrote that because I read someone's comment last week in response to another fic that paired Draco with an OMC where they stated that they categorically refuse to read fics that pair HP characters with original characters. You know, the whole Mary Sue-American exchange student syndrome.

We'll all commit fandom suicide together.

wow I really liked this. Very in your face subtlety. Yeah that doesn't make sense, but it does to me.
